I've been looking into the difference between Cephalon(Provigil) vs Sun Pharma(Modalert) Modafinil I've noticed users complaining of the efficacy of the Sun Pharma brand compared to Cephalon's. Besides the possibility of fake pills, there may be an explanation...
The Sun Pharma website lists this in their formulary:
Modalert 100mg Tablets Each film coated extended release tablet contains:Modafinil 100 mg 5 strips of 10 tablets 01x10 Modalert 200mg Tablets Each film coated extended release tablet contains:Modafinil 200 mg 5 strips of 10 tablets 01x10
The Cephalon prescribing info booklet describes their tablets as this:
PROVIGIL® (modafinil) Tablets 100 mg Each capsule-shaped, white, uncoated tablet is debossed with “PROVIGIL” on one side and “100 MG” on the other. NDC 63459-101-01 – Bottles of 100 200 mg Each capsule-shaped, white, scored, uncoated tablet is debossed with “PROVIGIL” on one side and “200 MG” on the other. NDC 63459-201-01 – Bottles of 100
The Cephalon/Provigil makes no mention of "extended-release" while the Sun/Modalert does. Also, Cephalon/provigil tablets are "uncoated" while Sun/Modalert's are "film-coated".
These qualities may explain why users notice a difference when switching brands. Perhaps crushing the Sun tablets before ingestion would increase the rate at which they enter the bloodstream. Since modafinil has a half life in the bloodstream of something like 15hrs, I don't see why Sun chose to make an "extended-release" tablet. Matta, did you feel awake later in the day, or have trouble getting to sleep? I haven't tried either tablet but am looking into giving modafinil a try. The thing is, I can't decide which brand to go with. The price difference is substantial enough that it is tempting to just go with the Sun. At the same time, if perchance the Sun pills from certain suppliers are fake, then why even bother taking a risk.
Any thoughts or comments? Has anyone had positive experiences with the Sun/Intas brand? If so, could you PM me the supplier you used and the date you ordered from them?
