Carisoprodol (Soma/carisoprodol)

Soma/carisoprodol tablets are available as 350 mg round, white tablets. Chemically, carisoprodol is N-isopropyl-2-methyl-2-propyl-1,3-propanediol dicarbamate. Carisoprodol is a white, crystalline powder, having a mild, characteristic odor and a bitter taste. It is very slightly soluble in water; freely soluble in alcohol, in chloroform, and in acetone; its solubility is practically independent of pH. Carisoprodol is present as a racemic mixture. The molecular formula is C12H24N2O4, with a molecular weight of 260.33.

Other ingredients include alginic acid, magnesium stearate, potassium sorbate, starch, tribasic

Carisoprodol is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful, musculoskeletal conditions. The mode of action of this drug has not been clearly identified, but may be related to its sedative properties. Carisoprodol does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles in man.

Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant used to relieve the pain and stiffness of muscle spasms and discomfort due to strain and sprain. Inform your physician if you are pregnant or nursing. Do not take this medication with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. This medication may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision; use caution while driving or operating hazardous machinery. Do not take any other sedating drugs or drink alcohol while taking carisoprodol. If dizziness occurs, avoid sudden changes in posture. Take this medication with food to avoid stomach upset. Notify your physician if you develop trouble breathing, unexplained fever, severe weakness, vision changes, swelling, or skin rash. Withdrawal symptoms may occur if therapy is suddenly stopped in a patient on long-term or high-dose therapy.

Ive taken carisoprodol (watson brand) for my back which seems to have helped alot. I havent taken other brands but this has done wonders for me with my pain. It sure does make you drowsy though, I wait until the evening before I take it.

"The half-life of carisoprodol is approximately 100 minutes. Some individuals have impaired metabolism of carisoprodol, and exhibit a half life of 2-3 times that in normal subjects. The half-life of meprobamate [primary active metabolite, also known as the Sched IV med Miltown]is many times longer, between 6 and 17 hours. As a result of the significantly longer half-life of meprobamate relative to carisoprodol, accumulation of meprobamate during chronic therapy may occur."

So if you figure that the median half-life of the longest metabolite is 11 hours, it takes about 4 days to get completely out of your system.

Could someone tell me what is a "Soma/carisoprodol compound". And if it would help when coming off hydro for herniated discs in your neck. I have taken the regular Soma/carisoprodol make by watson, and it only helped for a short while. Thanks in advance.

I was prescribed the Soma/carisoprodol Compound and found them less effective than regular 350 mg. Soma/carisoprodol. That is just my opinion. Soma/carisoprodol makes me incredibly drowsy, so I also only take them at bedtime. If I'm not mistaken the compound is peach on one side and white on the other?? I have 2 herniated disks in my lower back and they do help with the sciatica and the spasms. I hope this helps, even though everyone is different when it comes to medicine.

The compounded version has Tylenol in it and usually only 175 mg of actual carisprodol. I used to be the Soma/carisoprodol queen, I am the founder of the term "Soma/carisoprodol Coma". I had to give that stuff up. It nearly ruined my life.

Is Soma/carisoprodol legal in some states? If so which are they. I actually have back muscle spasms from work, and it seems like the easy way out, but if it helps...

Im only going to order if it's legal though.

"Reports of Soma/carisoprodol abuse have resulted in a number of states scheduling Soma/carisoprodol as a controlled substance. States that have taken this action are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, and West Virginia. Soma/carisoprodol is not scheduled at the federal level. However, reports of Soma/carisoprodol abuse are being monitored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Soma/carisoprodol could be listed under the Controlled Substances Act if warranted."

I think that there are more states than what is listed.

Hi, all! Since I saw so many requests for this info I did post it on a few foruma.
I haven't ever posted before (Bad lurker!) but I felt inclined this time. After going off on a "Live help" person (and manager) about if they were computers or scripted, I felt inclined to research this so, since I've seen may a person ask about where Soma/carisoprodol is a controlled drug, here's a list for all!

I'm getting Soma/carisoprodol for my pain, today actually. I am very curious as to how it helps as it would be so much cheaper than hydro. I have tried Tramadol (Click here for TramadolX180tabs for only 99.95 dollars), and while it worked on the pain, it made me feel weird. I didn't like it and my body felt funny when I took a second dose later in the afternoon but it also was cheaper than hydro. I ended up litterally throwing out like 50 of them because I was so mad at how they made me feel.
If Soma/carisoprodol works, I could save a lot from that $120.00 consult.

dear investor;
Soma/carisoprodol is a muscle relaxer and also helps w/spasms. if you have never taken it before i would suggest taking the first one when you are at home and don't have to drive or go anywhere for awhile after taking it. when i take it, the first hour after taking it i get dizzy and sleepy. the second hour i am just relaxed and after that i feel normal. so i when i take it i plan on just lying down for a couple of hours and then after that i can function w/little pain from spasms. some people take it at nite to help them sleep but i tried that and i do sleep for the first two hours after taking it but then i am up again and have trouble sleeping the rest of the nite. i hope it works for you. it helps me alot. let us know how it worked.

First time Soma/carisoprodol user. I took 2 350mg, from Raj, and don't feel the "Soma/carisoprodol coma" feeling I've read about. I also took 4 10/325's, 20mg diazepam, and 10mg Ambien- hoping I'd be out like a light. I'ts been 2 1/2hrs and I'm still here. What went wrong?

No somacoma here either, but boy do they make my legs feel heavy. It's like; I can feel my feet; my knees, and my hips--but nothing in between. They really affect my balance/hand eye coordination (if you will) and slow, deliberate movements are required. And whatever you dropped on the floor: careful trying to pick it up. JMTC.
Have a good day all.

Update:

Took 1 350, on a empty stomach, with... a few 10/325's, on the way home from work this morning. Within 15 min I thought I wouldn't be able to drive home and almost pulled over. Then I almost crashed, 1/2 mile from my house, got home and now I'm fine again.

I will be more careful in the future.

The same thing happened to me. I usually have a high tolerance to most drugs and I had taken it in the past with no side effects whats so ever. Took it one day and didn't feel anything until I got in the car to drive to the store. Fortunately, I didn't make it out of the drive way. I stay away from it now.

Yeah, I'm fine if I take Soma/carisoprodol alone. BUT, if I take it with a hydro, or something with codeine in it, or an Ultram,,,,it makes me really, really dizzy. I feel like I just had a few cocktails. Plus, it's wierd because the effect comes on very, very rapidly, I'd say in about 10 to 15 minutes. Soma/carisoprodol is definitely a med to be taken with care. If I space them apart a few hours it's fine, it's just when I take them together (at the same time) I have the problems.

Hi SeaAngel...
I've taken Soma/carisoprodol on and off for years. Just speaking from my own experience, I've never experienced any withdrawal. That certainly doesn't mean it's not possible. FWIW....

I would have to agree with Bobbiejo, I have stopped cold turkey many times and never had any WD symptoms. Again everyone is different some go through withdraws and some do not.

I was wondering about ordering Soma/carisoprodol for my girlfriend who has bad muscle cramps--she used to take Flexeril, which had a marked sedative effect. Anyone know if Soma/carisoprodol has more sedative side effects than Flexeril? Trying to compare the two meds, figure out which one is better.

For me the Soma/carisoprodol had a marked effect. It did relax my muscles but, it made my brain loopy. It certainly wouldn't recommend driving if she's going to take it. It also can be addictive and Dr.'s are more prone to prescribe Flexeril instead.

So I did a search on Soma/carisoprodol and found out it was not scheduled in Colorado. Yet, is it illegal to possess or take this medicine without a prescription? If you buy it from an IOP, will it be seized by customs? If you use it, will you fail a drug test?

A friend at work takes it -- his wife is a pharmacy tech and gets it for him. He said it relaxes him and allows him to fall asleep. However, he said it relaxes all muscles in the body, including the heart. That sounds scary.

He offered me some because I was having trouble falling asleep, but I declined. I've found that Valerian (though it smells bad) or Melatonin are good relaxers at bedtime.

Add Virginia to your list, Soma/carisoprodol and Soma/carisoprodol compound is
a Schedule IV in Virginia. It and Nubain, Stadol are
about the only ones I can think of that Virginia Schedules
outside of the CSA of the Federal Government.

I am quite doubtful that most drug tests are meant to pick up the assay for meprobamate. It would show up on a hospital ER tox screen, but typically not a standard urinalysis for a job or for CDL drivers etc.
