niogio niogio Member Registered: 05/23/08 Posts: 144	I am from southern Louisiana. I am now so worried about this storm. Its now really strong, and getting stronger. People are already leaving. So many people that the interstates are barely moving. What is really a bummer is my pain doctor closed yesterday without letting anyone know and left the state. So now, im stuck without any pain meds for God knows how long. Im in so much pain I can barely type this. I really don't know WHAT to do. I've called my family and friends asking if they had any extra meds that they could help me with..nothing. sigh I don't know why im letting you all know about my situation. I guess I just need to vent, and let someone know how im feeling. I really cannot believe this $hit is happening again. I just got comfortable in my house, and now it all might be washed away..AGAIN. I have friends in Lafayette and Breaux Bridge that I heard from yesterday who have closed down until at least Wednesday.....but being an hour away from the coast is a whole different thing. I've been checking the projected storm path every couple of hours hoping it will change. How can New Orleans survive? I am just sick about it. You need to get to an urgent care or ER or somewhere that will help you, if you're out of pain meds, and then get out of town. Please let us know. Good Luck! Be Safe!

I am just 60 miles northeast of New Orleans and we ARE freaking out. There's a possiblility many of us will get hit with very strong hurricane force winds. Of couse the local news is hyping it all and when you see all the cars and traffic trying to get out, it's very awesome and freaky. It's scaring me too. Thankfully I had rationed my meds to get me through this since I just requested a reconsult with chatcp but won't get a consult til next week. I just hope they don't call me during the storm. This person could go to an emergency shelter if things are that bad for them and get ANY medication they need. But I'm sure you would need a previous prescription bottle with you. _________________________ Waitin for pain to stop

Not only because of the hurricane, but in a situation like this, the last thing you guys need to be worrying about is how you are going to get your next batch of pain meds. And If I have to evacuate..ugh..I dont know if i can handle that. I might just stay and ride it out. Try to at least. I've been calling other doctors and hospitals and they tell me I need a reference from my present PM doctor. Louisiana is a$$ backwards when it comes to medicines. If you can go to one of the emergency shelter places, they have doctors/nurses that may be able to help. I live just west of Hammond on the north shore and I belive they have some shelters open there in Hammond and also in Baton Rouge. I just realized that if chatcp schedules me via email on Tues that we won't have power and I'll have no way of knowing when/if my consult will be scheduled! After Katrina we had no power for two weeks! And it's 95 to 100 deg. heat here. Not good for anyone much less people with pain problems. Hang in there Niogio. I am sure you'll be able to find a new PM doctor but for the meantime you can probably place an order with secretproducts.com to tide you over until you have to relocate. I am more spiritual than religious but will pray for you. Do you have any friends that are doctors that can maybe write you a script? Or you can try and go to an ER and explain your situation I am sure they will understand and give you the meds you need. I am in NYC and lived next to the WTC and found that when disaters happen people often come together to help one another. I hope this helps a little.

They are picking up people in buses right now and taking them to the Union Station (train) where you would be taken to an out of town shelter. Bring all you medical records and prescription bottles, even if empty. The shelters are suppose to have medical staff on duty to help people with medical problems. If your problem is debilitating they are putting those people on the trains to Memphis. This storm may actually be worse than Katrina. No one knows for sure yet what it will do but I think you would be better to evacuate from that location. Hang in and good luck. _________________________ Waitin for pain to stop

I bet anything they would give you at least enough pain meds to get through the long weekend. I know it can be costly, but now is not the time to worry about that, what with an angry storm heading straight in your direction. Plus, with you only speaking to a physician and not receiving treatment and/or getting all sorts of lab work done, it shouldn't be too terribly expensive. And then get out of there! New Orleans is in no shape to withstand another hurricane, so it's best not to chance it. Good luck to you and everyone else there. I will be praying.

I have a special needs son, and I don't always pay our co-pay when leaving the Drs. office, as usualy he wants to get the heck outta there, let alone the $100.00 ER co-pay, they get billed. You will not have to pay anything today...Also, when they send the bill, tell them what you can afford to pay and they will make you payment arrangements. I would get out of town and find the nearest ER of where ever you evacuate too. You will be fine and It wouldn't cost you but the cost of meds. Good Luck and God Bless

Tell them you were packing your stuff up getting ready to evacuate and all the lifting and moving has aggravated your symptoms so bad that you can barely move. And and a result, you are not physically able to evacuate with the pain you are in and you need something to get you out of the pain. If not, you can't physically do it (evacuate) so you will be stuck in your house during the hurricane. If you are really in that much pain, this is going to be very hard on you without any medication. With your doc gone and everyone evacuating, you don't have much choice than to go to the ER plus, like watcher said you won't have to pay anything right now so that will help.
