Does anyone know why some Dr's and PM Clinics are taking our photographs in the office?

in all seriousness.

It probably also helps some doctors put a face to the name when they are going through records before a visit. they can't possibly remember every patient unless they are a small practice. with all the PPO's, HMO, ...etc networks. When some doctors get on board, they probably get a ton of new patients.

with technology where it is at, and webcams/digital cameras being so affordable, i am sure more and more will start doing it with new patients.

i could be wrong...

Had only had this at a Pain Clinic and that is for verification when you come to pick up meds unless you have somebody you designate to pick them up for you-that is what they said anyhow.

Sorry, should have been more specific. In the last couple months I've been to three different physicians to try and find relief for chronic back pain. 2 of them took photos of each patient's face during the appt. - just seemed strange to me. Has never happened before. Thanks

makes sense at a PM clinic, but why would a psychical therapist that scripts me no meds take mine?

About a year ago I had gone and seen my OP Dr in person and they took my picture right outside the office. In the pic I was standing right in front of the door which had his name on it. The reason for the pic was so he had proof that I was actually in his office and did a face to face.

That was done to me one time without my permission . This male nurse walks up to me and snaps a picture and I was so shook up about it I never went back. I felt I was invaded and I was furious especially because they said nothing about it.

I was also photographed in my PM Clinic, although I never had to pick up medicine or anything of that nature. It is the only physician's office that has ever requested my photo...but it seems like that is the norm here.

On a side note, I was at a urologist's office a number of years ago to have my testes examined, and while waiting for the doctor (after seeing his nurse) a strange man walked in with very un-medical looking attire. He asked me to drop my trousers, and proceeded to examine my testicles VERY thoroughly. He was only in the room for 2 or 3 minutes, but oddly, told me thank you, and to pull up my pants. A few minutes later, the doctor arrived and proceeded with the scheduled examination. As I was leaving, I saw the same strange man pushing a mop and mop-bucket around the rear of the facility...I'm pretty sure now that he was a janitor. Yikes!!

To be honest, I was so stunned/confused, it didn't really register with me until a day or two later...

Perhaps it was some sort of self-preservation mechanism...subconsciously trying to shove that experience waaay down in my psyche!

I was too young to recognize that I probably had some sort of legal recourse. I'm sure I made his day a lot better, though!

Any of the explainations could be correct, I would just ask, or say I've never had my picture taken at a doctors office before, whats that for? I would think that they would tell you something.

but if it was a pain clinic, or doctor for pain meds, he or she may wan't to make sure you are not a drug seeker, and come again with a new ID. ( my guess). and as far as being legal, it may differ from state to state, in my state it is ok to record or to take a picture of you as long as the picture taker could have seen or heard you in a area that anyone could have been and overheard you or seen you.

So if the door was closed and your picture was taken, as you had a resonable right to think it was private, that would be illegal, being in a pain clinic, or a doctors office you may have to sign somthing, ( in the fine print) that says you gave permission to be photographed.( how many of us have ever refused signing a document when it come to a doctors visit, you have a level of trust there)

And/or ( if this applies) remember what we signed 2-10 years ago. Most of us just trust the doctor and does what he/she says--thats how we were brought up. IMO

Strawberry,

Once again, my lack of sleep is decreasing my ability to produce complete thoughts. What did we sign 2-10 years ago?? Thanks!!

Unfortunately, it is quite true. I know this thread is about having your photo taken at the doc's, but I had to share that little gem. I think the only person I've gotten to tell about it is my wife, but then again, it's not the sort of thing one would generally bring up in the course of normal conversation. Ah, well...lessons learned, right?

OK I must say I had my pic taken at my OB/GYN, now I was basically thrown when out of no where a nurse with her little polaroid snaps it. I mean not as if I was there to get any meds what so ever. But kinda through me for a loop. Then after I went back for another visit after some time had lapsed and different hair color and style the nurse when I signed in she pulls up something onthe computer in front of her and stands looking at me like huh this isn't you. I said what isn't me she turns the screen towards me there beside my name is my photo and I suppose certain amounts of medical info. I gave her my drivers license and told her that yes it would look different as when I was there last I just had given brith to a child not but 2 weeks prior. So yes I have lost weight, certainly changed my hair, and was very tanned. So she accepted this explaination. I assume it is merely to show that you are infact you easier way to identify a person. But the nurse insisted onupdating my photo at this point. I really don't know if there are anytype of consipracy out there with dr's taking people's photos but I doubt it. This was a few years ago when the first photo was taken well around 6 years ago. So its not something that is new. Maybe in some dr's offices but not all.

I cant speak for Medical doctors but when i was in the dental field 15 years ago, we took polaroids for many reasons. The first being that when you went into the waiting room to call the patient back, you knew who you were looking for. We also used them as before pictures when we were doing extensive denatl work on them. But whatever we used them for, we did it during their new patient exam and they were always told that we were taking it and why.

This is an interesting thread! I've never had my photo taken by any doctors, nurses, nor had the janitor play with my balls! lol. Sorry if that offends you, but that is a funny story. I think I would be weirded out if that happened to me. Although if it was a female, I would probably go back again.
