I'm with you Dr. Iris. I've always believed too much of anything is bad for you. I have been taking breaks away from the oxycontin using my dad's methadone. Still a narcotic but it is the only way I could take any kind of REALISTIC break from oxy.

I think something like DLPA could maybe help reduce the amount of pain meds required for real relief.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME ARTICLE !!!!!!!

I've heard many other people rave about DLPA and I agree with all of you that I'll gladly take less percocet and Soma/carisoprodol of DLPA even helps a little bit. In fact, that article moved me so much, I'm going to order some of that today. By the way.....if anyone is interested, I found an incredible company called Life Extensions that everyone on this planet should research. their website is http://www.lef.org and you'll be your own judge. Let me know what you think!

Last week, I bought a bottle of 90 1000mg dlpa for 8.99.

I took 3 initially. I was floored. I mean I am so use to supplements doing zilch.

I was taking no other pain medication at the time. It reduced the pain as well as the W/D by 30-50%.

It does do something! I did not notice any side effects.

Thank you for this article. I copied it and added it to my Pain Management folder to keep on my PC. It is very interesting.

It is great to hear positive feedback too! This is something that is really needed at this time with all of the "delays" happening as of late.

Sincerely,
Cordee

Yeah, 3 a day (1500mg) is a good starting dose. Glad it helped.

Also might wanna check out LDN (low dose naltrexone).

Naltrexone at 50mg doseages keeps addicts from using, as a opioid blocker but low dose naltrexone dose something else.

Opioiods a agonists and taking them long term make the body STOP making endorphins.

Naltrexone is an antagonist and it makes the body to start making endorphins BUT at the higer doses, you won't feel their effect cause they are locked onto the pain receptors.

At low doses, you get the endorphin push but without the receptor blockage. Tons of info on Google.

Where did you find it? Health food store? Makes sense and sounds great. Certainly preferable and a tremendous boon to even be able to cut medication intake in half.

Yes,

I still take it. I have been using Ultram sparingly with it. I don't need much Ultram when using DLPA. I bought it at a natural foods grocery store.

I also bought DLPA at a chain nutritional supplement store for 6.99 for 90 tabs 500 mg. I take 1 on empty stomach 3x a day and it seems helpful at this time for both pain and hungersatiety. I do caution to eat something after 1/2 hour. the first time I took it was inbetween 2 meals and I got a lot of backwash burpiness. Just my luck but I dont think it is helpful to take.

Someone just recommended this DLPA stuff to me yesterday. Think I may look into it as well. Certainly inexpensive enough.

Finally got some today. I'm going to start with the 500mg three times a day. Also says to take one before bedtime & take on an empty stomach. I will post how it goes. Wondering if I will feel better right away or is this something that takes a couple weeks?
I bought mine at Wild Oats & it was very inexpensive.

You know, this thread I started gets a little low on the thread list and all of the sudden, multiple threads get started that obviously came from this thread.

Hi Ron,

I wanted to thank you personally for bringing this article to light here at DB. Your thread and other members posting about DLPA and what I've read elsewhere has made me want to try it and so far am having excellent results. It's only my first week on it too

Ron,

Thanks from me as well! Your post as well as Wendy's inspired me and am on my second week and have already started to feel the results, mostly my meds lasting longer than before. I can space out my hydro much longer now.

Not to go off topic but I also wanted to mention that I read about Sublingual Methyl B-12 for energy and mental awareness as another additive to my meds and will post back the results on that as I just received and started taking them today. I am hoping it helps with that sluggish feeling I get after being on hydro for awhile.

I took this stuff years ago and it did help with pain after I came off all the pain meds and began to exercise. I believe your body converts it into L-Tyrosine. My daily dose for those was 1000mg DLPA and 500mg L-Tyrosine both at bedtime along with GABA and Melatonin. Never knew it was specifically for pain just that it helped relieve pain and stress.

I started to take the DLPA back in april & didnt follow through & didnt take it daily. I was doubtful. Always have been when it comes to supplements. I had an injury that required me to take more pain meds than usual. My Doc actually added meds to my regimen. Anyway, I restarted the DLPA 3 weeks ago, take it faithfully & I am really surprised how good I feel. It helps with the pain & I require much less pain medication. I also seem to have more energy when I take the DLPA.
I think I could go a few days without any narcotics if I had to. I havent been able to do this in many years. It will also be intersting to see how my MRI looks when I get my yearly. Probably no different but my pain is finally manageable. Not completely gone but under control. Its really worth a try if your not getting complete relief with pain meds.

Definitely iris. I've started taking again. My hope is the supplement makers don't catch on and boost the price like they did with CLA. Conjugated Linoleic Acid used to be $10 for #90 with a buy 1 get 2 free deal. Now I think #30 will set you back at least $10.

DLPA is the real deal. Try adding some L-Tyrosine to your routine, as well. Less stress, less pain.

It's just a building block for other chemicals your body needs like epinephrine(adrenalin) and it's what DLPA becomes in your body. I found it to be a good stabilizing supplement, usually taken at bedtime or 1/2hr before a workout. It's a nonessential amino-acid that when you do some research seems pretty essential, lol.
