Money Gram, cheaper and you can do it online to.
I agree. I always have to call WU to confirm and go through uncomforatble security (for my safety) questions.

I use moneygram, no one has ever asked me any questions. I find it odd that someone would ask for all that info -- I would be concerned.
They called about 15 minutes after I submitted the online transfer, and the agent said she just needed to verify the transaction. She verified my name, the receiver's name, and the amount, and then she casually asked me, "Are you paying this individual for goods you are purchasing?". Stupidly, I said yes, and she immediately told me that was forbidden by their policies, and that she was cancelling my transfer.
She never mentioned me being blackballed, but I have tried to use their service several times since then and each time they accept my transfer but then cancel it after-the-fact. Sometimes they call me, sometimes not. They have never given me a reason for transaction being cancelled; even when asked they just reply "The transaction is not authorized and that is all that I am allowed to tell you, sorry."
P.S. This was the very first time that I had ever used Moneygram, so that might be why they called. Also, I was sending money to Packistan. Honestly, I got the feeling that everything was fine and dandy once she asked the amount, the question about purchasing something seemed like one of those things that she tacked on because she was required to ask on every transaction, and I think that is what triggered the decline of the transaction. Of course, I could be wrong.

Hi BGB,
I just read your post, and with all that's going on in the Middle East, maybe that's the reason.
I have used both moneygram and W.Union, and no question, ever. That would freak me out!
Of course, they aren't going to be honest in their responses, the employees aren't required to ask that question about purchasing online, etc. I know someone who works at a check cashing store, that does W.U., moneygram, and she told me "who cares" about why, what, or where.
I would use W.U. at a Walmart, or any other big store. And IF they ask any questions (which I doubt) say you're sending it to a relative.
Good Luck,
fisher

What you're going through is what's stopped me from ordering the same way you did. I just don't trust sending money to somebody with a name like Afenia Shlombosky (made up, but close) and then hope it'll be alright. Don't freak, remain calm, don't allow yourself to feel intimidated. This is just you sending some money to a friend's friend or whatever, charity even. Remember you aren't purchasing any goods. Tell them you gave WU all the info you had and just ask if the money is going through, if not tell them to refund the money, you know nothing about any security problems. Let us know what happens. Good Luck
I sooo appreciate your taking the time to respond, SoHo. I did in fact, get the address only, called back WU and gave them what I had, and after a few (long) minutes, they cleared it for immediate pickup. Yikes, don't think I'll be doing that again. You're right, tho, I shouldn't have been so freaked. I almost required meds for that too! Thanks again, RS
