Ruggie I just signed it and am going to send that site to others in my family. I just wonder if they will have to have a different IP address to sign it because it says you can not sign on behave of others. I know my in-laws use the same computer and so do a lot of other family members. Of course dh is spoiled and has his own computer! LOL

Ruggie.....what is the password to log on and see the results? Do I have to set that up somehow?
I signed and added a thoughtful, well written comment (in my humble opinion) about how I am a middle aged business executive with chronic pain from TWO separate conditions. I have been under-treated, or not treated, for pain by local physicians.
I stated that I have had longer and more productive consultations with online physicians that I have had with my local doctors.
I added that I do NOT wish to be included in the group of "diverting, drug-seeking" people. I asked "them" (the DEA and others) to identify, isolate, and focus on THAT population rather than on ME and many others LIKE ME.
Without the pain relief I receive from an online service, I could not work. I could not pay taxes. I would have a very poor quality of life.
I only hope I do not harm my career by signing it - that is my fear, since of course I used my real name and city, etc.
Where will this go exactly? I am in full support - just wondering?????

Hey Ruggie--
this is a great thing. with what i about to say next, please don't think i'm trying to hijack this post, but....
if anyone wants to weigh in on this issue in an anonymous way, please consider the upcoming NIH survey. many of the issues that suzie identified will be specifically addressed. it is online, anonymous--in fact, we CAN'T know who participates--and all survey answers are pooled, so all data is de-identfied. Everyone please consider participating.

Did you see my post about the conference the NIH will be sponsoring in March? I think they have made their position on the prescribing of opiates pretty clear and it's not good for CP patients.

i didn't see your post, but i know about the conference. i'm not sure it is bad for CPers. i think one interpretation is that there are a number of ways to look at the issues surrounding chronic pain; the NIH tries to take a broader view of the isssue, certainly a broader view than the DEA. since the NIH is filled with scientists, they want data. if anyone doesn't like the current situation, then provide data that demonstrates how opioids have produced benefit. i would suggest the following: create a situation where the scientists of NIH are helpless before the truth; if opioids have helped, say that. if brick-and-mortar doctors suck, say that. but not providing data will certainly NOT help improve things.
just something to consider.

This survey has been "upcoming" for quite some time now. When exactly will the "upcoming" time finally be? My apologies if I don't sound friendly (I am) but seriously, people will lose interest in it soon. I'm sure most everyone will be more interested in an anonymous survey at this point and it would receive many more participants.

yeah, i know. the reality is that i started talking about the survey back in the fall in the hope of a long, slow buildup, and things took off FAR faster than i anticipated. we are really close to getting the thing put into web-based format, but that takes time (we have to work out the bugs). so for now, it is still upcoming, and i have to build enthusiasm all over again. sorry about that.
Ruggie has seen a preliminary version of it, so she can verify that things have actually moved forward. besides, drawing her back into this thread will allow her to redirect it--it really was not my intent to hijack it.
