Just to get an opinion...

Assuming that prices for medication would be the same, would patients prefer the option to pick up their prescription from their local pharmacy of choice or continue to recieve their medication through UPS/FED EX?

Thanks,
Gulfside Medical

Personally, I would prefer to get from my local pharmacy, but there could be potential problems with that for some based on which state people are in and their state's PMP program. The upside would be not having to deal with all the issues involved with the private carriers.

Im currently using another service but I think it would be more convenient to pick up at a local pharmacy. I know theres been alot of debate on here about doing that but I know people that do transfer their refills to major pharmacies. The drawback to that is you can only get your meds every 30 days instead of 25. I would be nice though if their was a service that did send your rx strait to a local pharmacy because it can be cheaper. To bad you couldnt do that and use your insurance, but I think that might raise a red flag. Im not sure, Im certain you will get some more input on this. Matt

Would we be able to use insurance if we picked up at local pharmacy? If that is possible then I would only have to pay $1 copay to get my meds.

I dont see why we shouldnt be able to use insurance if its at a local pharmacy. If it would work that would be awesome. I'd be paying about $1.50 and no shipping charges.

I would very much like to be able to pick up my medication from a local pharmacy. I have been diagnosed and prescribed benzodiazepenes but feel it is more convenient and actually still cheaper going through IOP's than scheduling numerous visits to my psych and paying for the meds also.

I would prefer local pickup. We could save the $ 20 in FedEx/UPS charges plus money order fees for those who use them.

Even if the fantasy of equal med pricing could ever be delivered on, I'd still prefer to pay for UPS/FedEx shipping in addition to the cost of meds. I'm in NYS and can't for the life of me see a local pharmacy accepting a script from an out of town doctor, nor would I want to try it out. Obviously though, if such a script could actually be filled at my corner brick & mortar with no catches, then of course I'd choose local. I just don't ever see that happening without some rather uncomfortable scrutiny.

Id rather get from local pharmacy except the fact of the pmp,due to fedex, dhl, ups not delivering to most parts of tn and they require you to p/u your order at the hub.with LE standing over your shoulder.even though i am legal it makes you feel as if you are going something wrong.i hate picking them up.

When I transferred my husbands refills from Medipharm to our local Safeway, they billed out insurance, and we paid $3.00 for 120 10/325. I was great, cause he had 2 refills when they did the transfer!

What if the ROP itself could get the doctor to mail you a paper RX to take into the pharmacy..then It would not be transferred correct?..I don't know if this would work but it IS a possibility in some places.

Hmmmm... I guess I am the only one with a different take on this. I use an ROP. They use UPS/FedEx/whatever. I also use my local Walgreens for other scripts, not related to what I take for pain.

I've gone to that same Walgreens for years; it's in my neighborhood, never had the horror stories some of you have had (and that includes times when I HAVE had local prescriptions for pain and/or anxiety meds).

I would be very uncomfortable presenting a script from an unknown, out of state doctor. The pharmacists at Walgreens know all the local doctors and dentists; know their office staff, heck - they can even decipher their handwriting!

So I feel it would impair my relationship with them to come walking in with a script for 90-120 hydrocodone from an out of state doctor. Not that it would be illegal; it would just be unusual, and I am afraid that they'd "flag" me for other things as well.

Just my opinion. I am willing to put up with the delivery and ordering process from a good (and I stress GOOD reliable) ROP vs. taking the script to my local pharmacist.

JMHO. I think the OPTION would be wonderful and let patients make the choice.

Hey only 2 more posts and I am no longer a "board addict". I think they have to be on separate threads, though... off in search of.....

Edited to say; nope, I guess not - just went up to 399 on this same thread. My post count wasn't changing last night so I thought it was because I had posted more than once on the same thread. Go figure....

I actually used this service from 1stPriorityRx.com who had a Call-In Service at one point in time. They are restructuring it right now, but I've heard they will have it back up and running again soon. It was Great! I picked up all three fills at my local pharmacies. 1stPriorityRx is Definitely on the cutting edge with this one and I bet they will have it back soon. It would be interesting to see if other ROP's such as this one follow their lead?

True, so true... BUT...if you bring the hard copy script with you from out of state, that's fine. Just don't EVER transfer it! You can only transfer once and that includes to the same chain half a mile away.

For those using insurance... what about that little printout that goes to your PCP, PM, etc.... that shows every medication you put on insurance that month???

My thoughts are if they were to do this the paper script sent to the patient would be the way to go. This way it has a seal and everything on it. Not only would it be cheaper for us since last time i paid cash money at my local pharmacy for 120 hydro it was only 55.00$ This would save hundred or more per fill. I think it would be wonderful, though i would not get greedy and use my 1$ copay for the above mentioned reasons above. If the primary finds out your getting hydro else where and not being up front , it could jeopordize the relationship. As marley stated he used a service that did a call in and worked great, but they stopped andi hope they get it going soon. I personally think this is the way of the future on line rx's , sending paper scripts to patients would be so much easier then worrying about if and when your rx will arrive.JMHO

I think that if I walked in my local Pharm with a script for 120# 10-Narco from an out of state Dr. they would want to talked to him in person. Like thats ever going to happen.

Just ran accross this post and YES. I would love to have mine sent to a local pharmacy. UPS and FED EX will not delever to west virginia and local doctors are hard to find for back pain. Please let me know when and if and I will be the first one to sign up.

I agree with Ricker - but I do feel for those poor souls who are living with pain in the "no ship" states, so I could see this as an option for them of course.

But I still would not do it myself.

Too much too risk to my relationship with my corner Walgreens (and I have not been a Walgreens "victim" YET) by presenting them with a large script for hydro from an out of state doctor.

They'd have a LOT of questions, I think. Even though it would probably be legal... depending... still would not want to do it.

Sickpup, What gives you the idea that schedule II meds cannot be mailed? At least the prescriptions can be mailed to the patient. My husband's oncologist has mailed percocet rx. to us before. Not to the pharmacy but to our home.

In many states, as I had a family member break pelvis over the last Holiday, talked to dr myself and they said no Oxy (percs or otherwise) over the phone, even 5 MG, only Hydros.
