I always wanted to see the Rolling Stones, but never got the chance.

The Allman Brothers Band. I was 14 so 1972 or 1973 in Tampa. My sister, my BFF and I were dropped off by BFF's cousin. I was the oldest of the trio too! Fun and great but my one "memory" was getting hit in the head by someone's tennis shoe that was thrown by some crazy fan!

Barry White in Nassau Coliseum, and yep, Nope, 'it was my first, my last' but not my everything driving from Brooklyn in sheets of rain and having to put up with his Ladies in Red, or whatever they were called.

I do miss the bugger though. He probably had one of the sexiest voices back then. Of course, it felt like someone kicked me in the stomach when I got to the Coliseum and actually saw him for the first time. It just opened my eyes, that's all. speechless

I don't remember much its been a while, i do remember a few things about the concert tho. The first band was pretty good but everyone sat down after maybe the 3rd song, maybe a few random girls dancing or whatever. When their set was over in about 45mins they had like 10 mins intermission and BAM curtain went up and angus young was hitting the big bell with a sledge hammer for Hells Bells and the place erupted hah smile

or maybe it was brian hitting the bell, its been so long heh
oh i was 14 and in junior high. i believe

And speaking of memories. . . Saw Bob Seger with Patti Smith opening show (I was 19) and witnessed her horrible backwards fall off the stage head first (Tampa). Then saw Lynard Skynard (Lakeland, Fla) just few months before their horrible plane crash and sad loss of many talented members (I think I was 18 then). And Eric Clapton (was 21)when Yvonne Elliman was with the band. And Bonnie Raitt (when I was 21)in St. Petersburg, Fla. Ahhh. Good ol' days!

cool chuckee!
I was a little too young to make a concert that year but was definately into Alice.
ONe of many obscure first almbums was 'Billion dollar Babies'

Lived outside Flint a year or so and saw Quiet Riot at some Bar/Nightclub in the early 90s -Bay City maybe.

Chuckee - Tower of Power and Cold Blood were considered soul funk bands with big horn sections.

Trivia: Lenny Picket, the current lead Sax player for the SNL band, was formally the lead Sax Player for Tower of Power back in the 70's

This was my 1st concert as well and I was 14 at the time too. I could have sworn it was more like 82-83 though and I was a freshman in high school. I graduated in 87. I have no idea who opened for them but I do remember Angus and the bell at the begining while they started playing Hells Bells. I also remember Angus mooning us a couple of times. I have to say though the music of my high school years was not my favorite. I did like ACDC but was not crazy abour hair bands, I kind of listened to retro music and was big time into Zepplin, The Doors, Hendrix and the Stones. I totally was into the Grunge thing in college and early 20's though and also liked going to Dead Shows.

Khilee . I did not consider it a real concert. I seen Grand funk railroad , flint mi. In 1970 they had just stared out. They were a local band form flint.

They played at a park down town flint. I meet them before they were big. There manger Terry Knight was all so from flint. He was a real as* hole. He took them for all most every dime , when they fired him.

He even took the bands guitars and drums , said that they were his . He claimed that there contract with him , gave him every thing. Dam

Mark Farner the lead singer and lead guitar , was just here in town , last month with his new band.

LOL....You will never believe it....I did see Genesis after ACDC and it was a great concert. Boy nothing like chatting with someone from my era, lol...So who else did you see? Lets see, I saw Iron Maiden, OZZY, Rainbow, Quiet Riot(lol). Jeez, I sound like a total metal head but really I'm not. Like I said I was not the hugest fan of my high school years music. I did not like hair bands, especially Bon Jovi, lol...I was not crazy about Motley Crue either.I loved the late 70's and early 80's though, especially when MTV first started. I turned that station on and never turned it off again for like 4 years, lol... I loved David Bowie during that time and bands like the Cars. Then when the grunge movement hit in the early 90's, I was all over that, and I also loved going to Dead Shows too, especially at Soldier Field in Chicago!!! Anyway it's ben great reminicing(SP) with you!!!

I almost forgot to answer you question...I saw ACDC in Peoria Illinois at the Civic Center. Did Farm Aid come to your area? That was another awesome concert event I went to.

Duran Duran at Blossom Music Center 1984-5?

Don't judge me!

I was like 9 years old and wore a lot of fluorescent-colored things. I was a victim of 80's zeitgeist. Then I discovered Led Zeppelin when I was 10.

Oh...the opening band was Erasure...if anybody cares.

Why don't we move on to BEST concerts? I saw Zeppelin several times, but my best concert is a tie: The Ramones @ The Whiskey in 1977, and Elvis Costello at Hollywood High School '77 or '78.

I've seen plenty of local band shows, but I'd say my first big concert thats worth mentioning was Marilyn Manson, on the "guns, god, government" world tour. probably in the year 2000. but I had been to plenty of local band shows in VFW halls, or bars before that, but I'm not counting that.

look at my location. btw, I don't live in St. Louis. I don't even live in the same state, but I do live pretty close to it, in the neighboring state. but I seen them at Fox theatre. I cannot think of what year it was, but it was in St. Louis on, I think October 30th. which was awesome that I was seeing him on Devils Day.

Most people travel to see concerts. I don't think it was a bad question at all.

Steppenwolf, Summer of '69.

They were still big then because of Easy Rider.
Only went because a girl wanted to go.
Come to think of it, I did everything because of "a girl" at that age ?
Concert was in War Memorial Coliseum in the city.
Seating, about 8,000. Big names seldom came here.
Doesn't matter which city, cause they're all the same, right ?
Just another small southern town.

Now, here is the funny part. The concert almost didn't happen because the City Fathers found out there were "dirty words" in some of their songs.

Kay agreed not to sing the "dirty words", so the show went on.
Guess he was pretty smart and knew what would happen ?

When the band played "The Pusher", 8,000 kids screamed "God D*#M the Pusher Man."

The City Fathers flipped and banned the band from returning. rofl5
Didn't really matter, as the big bands began using a larger arena in a nearby town.

Incredible to see how times have changed in my lifetime.
Swearing is now common at town council meetings as they try to balance the budget, what with all our industry gone and even our bank became a house of ill repute.

Whoops, off topic there.

Steppenwolf didn't sound as good live as on their records.
Could have been the acoustics of the old coliseum ?

Wish I had seen Skynyrd before the crash and heard Duane Allman before his crash.

Good Topic !
Thanks Everyone.

I didn't mean it in a smart-alec (I know thats a word, but I'm not sure how to spell it, spell check isn't helping, haha) way. please don't take offense to it. but I seen them in St. Louis Fox Theatre, don't remember the year, but it was October 30th. for the Guns, God, Government tour. I went with two really, REALLY hot girls, I think I was 15 at the time of seeing them. which would've made it year 2000, as I'm 24 years old now.

I saw Manson open up for Nine Inch Nails in, i think, 1994? This was around the time "Portrait of an American Family" came out.

I had never heard of the band, but Manson came on stage and started the show by reciting an excerpt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and stripped down almost completely naked except for a big black stovepipe hat, a black cane and a large black....ummm how shall we say...wearable phallus. And they rocked! And I thought Black Sabbath had the scariest music I ever heard!

This was also the infamous show where Courtney Love (post-Kurt-blowing his brains out) was a total train wreck, flashed the audience several times and jumped into the crowd to surf wearing nothing but a miniskirt and no panties.

Appropriately titled, this was the first leg of Nine Inch Nails "Downward Spiral" tour.

Ahhh...memories.

It's hard really to pick the BEST one. I mean... one goes to a G.W.A.R. show with completely different expectations that if one is attending the symphony.

That being said, in terms of quality of musicianship, I'd have to say it's a tie between King Crimson with the California Guitar Trio at Nautica 1993(?) or B.B. King, who I requested to go see for my 16th birthday present (1992).

Robin Trower was pretty awesome too, but some of his material gets kinda boring.

Wow murbella, you really go for the "old school" don't you?

I am one of those old folks who scorn equally old bands touring...for example, The Sex Pistols played San Francisco for their last concert as it turns out; I lived in LA, and couldn't get up there to see them (damn I was pizzed at the time), but I sure wouldn't pay to see them now...in their 50's, and fat old wrecks, nosirree, rock n'roll should be played by the young (I know plenty of people disagree with me.) The Last Concert I went to was Chris Isaak in the mid-90's, and he was great (and, in small world territory, his bassist at that time used to be in a SF Punk Band I used to see in the '70's called The Avengers.)

It doesn't really count and it's embarrassing, but my dad took me to Sha Na Na when I was like 5 or 6 yrs old. Then it was a summer of Depeche Mode, Grateful Dead, Billy Idol, The Cult, and The Cure. I know the Dead doesn't really fit, but I listened to everything and eventually went to 47 Dead concerts while living in Berkeley. Fun times....I miss them.

Although I didn't go to concerts in the 80's (with the exception of a Punk gig), I loved Depeche Mode, The Cult, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen....

btw, I would LOOOOOVE to see GWAR, or maybe the old school Green Jelly (they have a new cd out now, btw, and its terrible. nowhere near as good as Cereal Killer Soundtrack)

I would also have loved to seen manson around the "portrait" time, or even during the Anti-Christ Superstar time.

OH, another good show I went to was El Monstero, which is one of the bigger Pink Floyd tribute bands. gotta love them.

but I'd also LOOVE to see a symphony, or some real gloomy piano music or something.

we've got a 3 day hippie festival around here.

I've never been, but I'd really like to go. I just don't think I could get around so good at a festival with a cane. plus I'm not big on camping.

I only made it to 11 Dead shows. I think the last was Buffaloe NY in 1996. The ride back home was quite the long strange trip smile . My friend that I went with was trying to talk me into staying overnight with 2 really freaky chicks in a tie-dye tent. They had longer hair under their arms than I did speechless. I stuffed him in the car and drove 6 hours back to my own comfy bed. Ok..OT. Sorry.

I've seen GWAR more times than I can count. It's like a ritual in these parts. Expect to leave with bruises and covered in blue-green liquid that won't come out of your clothing.

Green Jelly just played a week or so ago. I couldn't get anybody to go with me!

A friend of mine works for a large outdoor concert venue here, so I got to see the Cleveland Orchestra perform Berlioz and Debussey this summer....for FREE!

My favorite concert was Micheal Bolton. I saw him 3 times at the now closed Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville. One time my daughter took me for Mothers Day. It was so dark and we had seats in about the mid section. My seat was the first one at the begining of the row. We didn't realize he was coming down from the top on a very high stool until he was 1/2 way down. Several people were getting up so we did too. We got so close you could touch him. Another time he did one with Wynona Judd. That was a fun one.

I have seen several country music concerts and a few of my favorites were Alan Jackson, Reba, and Tim McGraw.

1978 (or maybe '79) - Legend Valley Ohio - Hot freakin' Summer day.

All day outdoor concert. Todd Rundgren and Utopia headlined (Hey, he was BIG in Ohio!)

Cheap Trick (who rocked outright)

The Cars (who sucked outright, their sound system was absolutely awful)

Eddie Money (Suprisingly good)

And the obligatory opening act, "Roadmaster". Like the bicycle from Schwinn.

No wait, first concert was Todd Rundgren and Utopia at the old Agoura Theatre in Y-town, Ohio, 1976. Yes? No? Something / Anything?

I'm not a big fan of Rush, but after seeing them perform at the CSU Convocation Center circa 1992(?) I had to give them credit for their excellent musicianship. While they are among the more technically proficient bands I've seen, for some reason their music just doesn't "move" me. I listen to Rush, and I have almost no emotional reaction...maybe a bit of mild irritation at Geddy Lee's vocals...

The show was great, but the crowd scene was really kinda bizarre...Throughout the performance about 10 percent of the audience was engaged in a sort of spastic gesticulating behavior, which I gleaned to be the drummers who had come to the show and decided to play "air drums" along with Neil Pert.

It was interesting to observe.

Anyway, I probably wouldn't have gone, except that my high school sweetheart (who was a drummer) paid for my ticket and Primus was the opening act.

Pink Floyd was a really good chillin' concert! I remember the tix were 45.00 and that was a lot back then. With all the smoke, the lasers throughout the show looked awesome. I'm surprised I still remember any of it though, lol.

I went to a lot of concerts as a kid. My BF had a good job and his mom had speed redial at her work. Pretty snazzy for then. I've seen Heart, Pat Benatar, Ozzy, Ted Nugent, Van Halen, Foghat (sort of - I fell down a flight of stairs while drunker than a skunk), etc... Too many to list.

I started not getting into Rush so much when they changed producers with the Subdivision Album. I still think they are amazing, such sound for 3 people. OH, yeah, Triumph, another 3 person band from Canada, saw them a few times too, prolly with Rush, I don't remember every detail.

I would say their music isn't really an emotional music. so thats not surprising. and I'd say a lot of their fans were most likely Dungeons and Dragons players. (I wasn't around back then, born in '85, but thats just from what I understand)

also, I'd like to point out there is a newer band thats been compared to Rush called Coheed And Cambria. they have songs about similiar things, and the vocals are similiar.

Jeff Beck and Andres Segovia. Two of my favorite guitarists, have seen neither.
