Lorazepam (Ativan)

Lorazepam, an antianxiety agent, has the chemical formula, 7-chloro-5-(0-chlorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-3-hydroxy-2H-1,4-benzo-diazepin-2-one.

Tablets: It is a nearly white powder almost insoluble in water. Each Ativan tablet, to be taken orally, contains 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg of lorazepam. The inactive ingredients present are lactose and other ingredients.

Injection: Lorazepam injection, a benzodiazepine with antianxiety and sedative effects, is intended for intramuscular or intravenous route of administration. Lorazepam is a nearly white powder almost insoluble in water. Each ml of sterile Ativan injection contains either 2.0 or 4.0 mg of lorazepam, 0.18 ml polyethylene glycol 400 in propylene glycol with 2.0% benzyl alcohol as preservative.

Tablets: Lorazepam is indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or for the short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety or anxiety associated with depressive symptoms. Anxiety or tension associated with the stress of everyday life usually does not require treatment with an anxiolytic.

The effectiveness of lorazepam in long-term use, that is, more than 4 months, has not been assessed by systematic clinical studies. The physician should periodically reassess the usefulness of the drug for the individual patient.

Injection: Lorazepam injection is indicated in adult patients for preanesthetic medication, producing sedation (sleepiness or drowsiness), relief of anxiety, and a decreased ability to recall events related to the day of surgery. It is most useful in those patients who are anxious about their surgical procedure and who would prefer to have diminished recall of the events of the day of surgery (see Information for Patients).

Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine used for the treatment of anxiety, anxiety with depression, and insomnia. Inform your physician if you are pregnant or nursing. Lorazepam may cause dizziness and drowsiness; use caution while driving or operating hazardous machinery. Do not take any other sedating drugs or drink alcohol while taking this medication. Lorazepam may be habit forming. Withdrawal symptoms may occur after you stop taking it. This medication may be taken with or without food.

You'd have to take on average twice as much lorazepam than clonazepam to achieve equipotency.

Prescribed by accident?!?!

My adult son was prescribed 1mg Ativan because he was having panic attacks. Since he doesn't have insurance he ordered from an IOP and accidently got 1mg sublingual Ativan. Does this differ significantly from the regular pills or does it just work faster?

I have heard (from one not-too-intelligent) doctor that lorazepam (Ativan) is much easier on one's liver than any of the other benzos. Has anyone else ever heard this? It does not make any sense to me because they are all so similar...

I experienced this with a relative in pallative then Hospice Care. Chronic (18 yrs) of Klonopin 1 mg. It was very hard on her LF. The Hospice switched her to Ativan. It didn't really matter in the long run but I have also heard this.

I've always felt that Klonopin was much stronger to me than Ativan. I'm on 1mg Ativan now, 2mg 3x a day if I need it, and when I take 2mg of Klonopin, it feels so much stronger to me. Is that weird??

Oh nevermind - I just got nephro's post backwards in my head. I guess it's normal. Ugh. Mental note: don't post while on pain meds.

I just got some lorazepam 2mg from an IOP in Honduras. I have never seen this brand before. The pills are very little, yellow, scored on one side, with a K inside a triangle on the other(I think, my eyesight isn't that great anymore and the pills are tiny). The name Sedatival is on the foil. Has anyone had experience with this kind of lorazepam? If so, what is your opinion of them? I had planned to take one half a tab as 2mg will usually put me to sleep.

Thanks for any info. Peace,

Folksong

many oncologist prescrible ativan as a away to stimulate hunger in cancer [atients.

personally i like using 2mg in the event i'm overwhelmed by a busy day. For me, I feel it has a milder effect than all the other benzos. Thats why it like over the others.

I was first prescribed Ativan in 1992 by my PCP for GAD/hypertension related to anxiety/insomnia. 1 mg twice daily as needed meant to me I immediately started taking those 2 daily at the same time before dinner when I got home from work and I woke up relaxed and lasted me through the day. Left my job and insurance in 2000 after 10 years. Started buying from NROPs and soon IOPs which were cheaper but had to wait weeks. Got insurance back that covered them at a new company and went back to CVS/Walgreens whatever from 2001-2003. One nice thing about the South American blistered 2.5's by Wyeth brand if I remember and another was I could break one in two or if I really needed to relax take a whole one since they were better than US generics Since 2005 my new insurance won't even discount a benzo so back to IOP's. I won't b#$%h about TODO not being around anymore but there are still some good ones out there. Bagó from S/A are as good and are perfectly fine for my anxiety with an occasional change to V's or X's for really stressful times or to take a break from one benzo. Your mileage may very.

Wake up every mornin' to the alarm clock warnin' take the 8:15 into the city....

(bamone5) same with me, prolly the mildest benzo ive had

I've tried Ativan also, I don't think that is a weak benzo, but maybe one that just last a bit longer than some others you or I may have had before. I also noticed that it did take over an hour to start working.

I started on lorazepam about 2 weeks ago, 0.5, the weakest dose, and I like it much better than Xanax. Its seems to last longer, or at least it has for me.

I have heard that sedatival is great. I've been trying to find it--but pharmaoffshore--my usual guy, doesn't have it. Do you have a web address for the Honduran guy?
