FYI - per the DEA/DOJ website: carisoprodol (trade name Soma) Soma is NOT controlled federally; however, is currently controlled in the following states: Alabama Arizona Arkansas Florida Georgia Hawaii Indiana Kentucky Louisiana Massachusetts Minnesota Nevada New Mexico Oklahoma Oregon Texas West Virginia

Folks- Please excuse my ignorance, but what is Soma? I've looked around, and I'm guessing it's a sort of nickname for something. You know, like hydro. Has anyone found it effective for disc herniation pain? I'm considering the epidural injections at this point, but advice is always welcome. I'm currently on hydro. I abused it in the past, but I'm one of the lucky ones who can still use it properly after that mess. I now have some new issues. I'll probably have access to more narcotic products, but I don't necessarily want to go there. If Soma is a good idea, any info is more than welcome. Thanks!

Whatever helps. That is my philosophy. It would be a shame if Soma became controlled since it seems to bring relief to so many. I have never taken it, so I have no comment on the drug itself. But, I CAN say - when you suffer, one must do what one must do. Please, please do not schedule everything. If anything, schedule Tylenol and Advil (although that's probably not good either). I ground down my teeth. Didn't end up with TMJ, but I did end up with itty bitty teeth. When you breach the enamel, you are fooked. Healthy gums, roots, etc. but at 50k to do a reconstruction, well, that was not possible. I fired my dentist - I liked him, but he should have educated me about mouth guards. I probably should have known, but I didn't. Is Soma a muscle relaxer? Just what does it do? Keep waiting for the first trick or treaters. Turned the clocks back. Me and Ronnie take turns. Just how many meds are they going to make controlled??? Makes me so mad. OK, I won't get going. Rain

Stacy, my mouth grinding started when I was applying for both Standard Disability and SSDI ( Standard made me do it). My dentist never told me about a mouth guard. It didn't take long for the enamel to be breached. If I hadn't had such good teeth before hand, well, maybe it would have felt better. But I did. Now I have have dentures, cause I couldn't afford all the "fixes". I hate them. That's why I have lost so much weight. It is just not fun to eat. I don't like to tell anyone, cause, well they are dentures. I never wear them at home (there are certain advantages, lol, wink, wink). Back to Soma - if know nothing of this med and should keep my mouth shut about it. I predict, and I hope I'm wrong, that THEY will schedule most everything. Geez. I do not know which states that consider Soma scheduled, but I bet a Google search would render that info. Can't stay awake. 4:30 is way too early. I will visit another thread and then take my Ronnie to bed. Rain

WRONG. It is not a FEDERALLY CONTROLLED drug, but it is a STATE CONTROLLED drug in the states listed above. I know this, I live in one of the states listed. Time to move if you need Soma!! Funny, I can order it from a NROP and they will ship it or my dentist is good to give it to me. first - sorry, all. most places call Soma " carisoprodol" now ( carisoprodol is the name of the drug, not the brand name - like both advil and motrin = ibuprofen). didn't mean to confuse; i honestly thought people knew what Soma was. i won't make that mistake again. "controlled" can be schedule V or higher, but the state may allow cross-state-border shipments of a legally US prescribed controlled substance. so in other words, it's all in the wording in the state law. however, normally "controlled" = no shipment. that's obviously not true, depending on the state. this list is to help others identify either a) why they can't get Soma ( carisoprodol) or why b) their doctors are leery of Rxing it. - thought it would be helpful. again, apologies for the confusion.

From the DEA site:

It is currently scheduled under state law in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and West Virginia.
