I was looking at the LL. The package had green tape on it.. ripped open, but the LL has a spelling error. Right before the date in the first paragraph, its missing a "n" on the word "on". Also after the date, there is some space before the put a period. This is how it looks...

"that contains controlled substances o Oct 08,2009 ." Does that look funny to you? also the "risky business" page is all sideways and poorly copied. I also noticed that the first 4 digits on the reference number was the same as one previously posted... and that my last name was spelled correct but weird, I am going to use a fake name to show you how they did it.
"Chris HOWARD" The last name was capital.. Can anyone help me. I feel maybe they are trying to scam me but the GREEN tape is on the package so its throwing me off... Package came from India.

its a place that isn't that known, I'm not sure if i feel comfortable saying it after this letter. But does that seem weird? I honestly don't think that CBP would make spelling errors.

While it is not out of the question it could be a fake, don't underestimate how sloppy the folks who write these letters up can be. They could simply be in a hurry and have a pile on their desk that they need to type up for someone.

meh, i don't think the write the WHOLE page over and over again, i thought it would be just slots they fill in or even automated. anyways i contacted the card processing customer service and they were happy to help me.

The letter has a reference number and a phone number...
If you are so concerned just call the number and find out. Nobody here can tell you if it is real or fake based on the info you posted....

You can also blackout your personal info and attach a copy of the letter to your next post... that will result in better feedback...

I've received one LL in my life, about 6 years ago. The back page was sloppy and not copied well, but the information was mostly correct and it did come from the right agency with the contact number, how to dispute the claim, etc. And yes, there were a couple of misspellings but from seeing other people's LL's I know that it was real. But....my LL came in the mail in an envelope, not inside the package with green tape. I just didn't get the package at all, and 2 months later an LL showed up in an envelope from our lovely government.

I do know there was a IOP that was putting LL's in their packages instead of what you ordered and people stopped ordering for a while from that site, so I guess I'm torn. Maybe the government is just getting sloppy or doesn't have enough people so now they just take the items out and put an LL in the package, instead of sending the LL separately months later.

On the second page I blacked out what office they said it was, but there was NO contact number whatsoever. I just don't want people seeing what city I am in.

Also the reference number MATCHES another one I saw on this forum, at least the first 4 digits..

But do you see how the n is missing and the period is hella far away from the date in the first paragraph. Also, no contact number? what gives... im going to someplace else with my refund ahaha

yes, did notice that. but this is the govt we are talking about. people getting paid large $ to do little work. i really would not be surprised if this was real with the typo's.

but again, i do not no as i dont order online so i have never received a LL.

is there usually a contact number to reach them when one gets a LL? i thought you had to reply by snail mail. i would think if whoever you ordered from would just copy an old LL and just change the name. so if there is normally a date, and not one on yours, then yes that does sound fishy. but for the last page that is copied poorly, i could honestly see them just making hundreds of copies and still using the ones when the toner is low and yoy start to get that smearing of sort. or whatever you want to call it.

with that being said, there are many people that have reported and confirmed getting fake LL's. there have also been people that have gotten real ones that are just stuffed in the original package.

so who knows these days.

jeez, sorry about the typos... i got a new slim keyboard cover for the MacBook Pro and have not gotten used to it yet...
