I do however love that I can come here and you guys have been helpful with all the information you've provided on my surgery.

This is a message board and posting is what people do on message boards
This is the truth and if you do not like it it does not matter.
It is ridiculous for newbies and strangers to PM people and expect they will spend a lot of time answering the same question by PM over and over again. Everybody should post their questions for all to see and comment and all answer should also be post. Beware of the people that answer your posts by PM.
And it is ridiculous to ask people in private when you can post and get many responses in a transparent and open way

And when you post for all to see and comment it is much safer for you and the board. Scammers work best by PM

To end... if you do not like to post: just do not post but please do not come to a message board to say it is ridiculous to post messages... what is ridiiculous is to PM strangers with any sort of message... you never know who you contact by PM... it is not as safe a posting... when you seek advise on buying meds online your only safety is in posts

If a stranger sends a PM asking a question: the best answer is "please post the question on the board for all to see, benefit, and comment. I will answer your question when you post it on the board"

Can we not use pm anymore?
Yes you can put must have 25 "good posts" to do so...

Well said Admin, most members find the information they need by sitting down and having a good read of the posts that are here as almost all of them will answer the question you have. This board has grown into a large discussion with lots of Off Topic sections because the members asked for them this way we can discuss other topics apart from our ailments and how useless our various doctors are .It is the largest Pharmacy Watch Board on the net and I would hate to see anything to happen to it. On occasions members post the same post in several threads I am guilty of doing this my self when I am trying to get a certain message across but it is spamming and against the Rules and you can get your fingers rapped for it. So If there is some thing you want to say find the right thread or if you cannot find a suitable thread then start one then you will get all your answers in the one place.

I do not mind someone pming me,but I also understand administrations concern. There have been pm's I ignored, due to spamming but to tell you the truth, since I joined the boards, I have gotten more spam in email. Anyway, I certauinly undertand and agree because there has to be a away to try to control alot of the spam.

I have experienced the opposite.
100% of my pms are from newbies asking about various things and I'm glad to help.It doesn't add to my post count, no yellow ribbons or trophies but who cares.
We are here to help & assist one another and that's what counts. IMO.

Well, I can tell you from experience that the restrictions on PMs is probably a good thing in most cases. This is especially true for newbies and bad news for crooks. Crooks can use a newbie to help perpetrate scams that cost people lots of money. I don't think I need to go into detail but if you think about it you can probably imagine how someone can set-up a website, ship a few orders, and then sit back and wait for thousands of dollars in "orders" to come in (and get paid) until it is discover they are crooks. bill It just takes a few positive remarks (PM's) about a vendor to be PM'ed to others and then others and so on before they get outed. By then the crooks are rich and ready to do it again with a different site. mad

Nobody can PM you. You only have 10 posts and your PM's are not working. Stop making up silly stories...

Admin is right. You just registered today and up to 10 posts. The stupid ones get you in trouble and you may not get your PM's after 25 posts. That is all up to admin. I have seen him say it so many times lately. I'm sure he is tired of it.

I have this same problem. Lynx4, in a response to the above post, suggests contacting a longtime poster that is known not to be a scammer to get the info out - how do I go about doing this? Thanks.

whoa admin my apologies it was not meant that I do not like to post it is just that sooo many people post so much personal information that they shouldn't which I came here looking for help and advice about all the surgeries my docs have been doing and honestly I needed help besides pain meds these docs want me to take. I needed something that wasn't going to make me so looped I couldn't function. I in no way meant to offend or say I don't like to post I would love to help anyone that may need some answers I may be able to answer just not give out so much personal info for the world to read. If you do a search about the board there are other forums that have made the same complaints now that said I have no way of knowing that those people may have been kicked off or are drug dealers shills. This board has been an enormous help to me and didn't mean to sound like I didn't appreciate it.

While I thought I had more than 25 posts, it's not a big problem IMO. I've been on a number of boards where I'm one of the more experienced members, and I get all kinds of PMs from people who are brand new to the board and don't know how to use the search function, or people who just lurk and never contribute.

So, even though it has affected me, I applaud the new rule. FWIW

I think if a new person asks for a source by pm that is wrong and against the Rules.

I have no problem talking to my trusted friends about things by pm but anyone who wants information on a source it is here on the threads for all to see.

I have more than 25 post and many friends here. My ability to pm is restricted here as well. What do I need to do to regain the privledge? I enjoy having the ability to pm friends with things that are considered "off topic" or just not of great interest to the forum as a whole.

I don't think I have ever been a trouble maker... I have some good references of long time members here too.

If admin could please let me know what I need to do, I would really appreciate it.

In closing, I'd be so happy if I could be able to PM again. I don't use it often but I like to know it is there if I need to use it. smile

Thanks,
KLynn

It doesn't bother you that the Newbie you may be sharing dangerous (to you and the board) information with is someone you know nothing about?

I generally advise how to search the site for what they are looking for and then for them read the posts on the site and the ones who are reliable vs. the ones who aren't will become quickly apparent to them. And I always wish them good luck and good health which I also now do to you.

Good point but I don't share that much. No chit chat, personal info or banter.
Just links and I check their posts first. smile

The newcomers, strangers, and newbies are the ones that need the most help and should get it. The newbies are the least dangerous of all posters. Our goal is to help all visitors but we like to help newbies the most... lead them in the right direction till they can do the same...

The real danger is not that a newbie is going to fool an old timer... the real danger is for newbies to be fooled by old timers...

That is why it is so important that all questions are posted for all to see and comment... when people start offering help, recommendations, favors, and so on by PM... then you only hear what that person in the private topic has to say and nobody else can help or knows what is going on... that is where most bad things happen...

PM's are sort of like dark streets that offer little protection... if you know the dark street and have friends there you may be OK... but you do not want to walk into a strange dark street in a strange place all alone...

Then there are spammers but that is another beast... and we all hate spammers...

If you haven't posted in the past 60 or 90 days, you should be able to PM now, after the software update, & you should be able to PM after your first post - since then (only if you have 25 posts that count!- for those that don't know)!.

If not, then there is a problem, email the admin or make a separate thread to him about your problem, but there shouldn't be one, after you post again - from the admin's software update a while back!
