I'm having problems sleeping, even with sleeping pills, so some nights I don't sleep, but I still need to be up all next day. What's good to keep awake and alert? And I don't want to get hooked on amphetamines.

Ive just ordered and am going to be trying modafinil, other names modalert. Read up on them, they look like a much better option than the speedy amphets. I have got mine from airsealed.com and as you know they have one of the best names on this forum.
Might be what you're looking for,

entheta - No Doze always works for me. It can make you jittery, but will def. keep you awake and alert. Also Excedrin, coffee, soda - anything with caffeine. But if I absoulutly have to stay awake, I take NO Doze. This is what works for me. Oh, forgot to add I don't take after 5 pm, unless I really want to stay up all night long. Sorry to hear of your sleeping problems. Yes, be wise with amphetamines.

Provigil(Modafinil) is a med for narcolepsy and shift-workers. It's a non-amphetamine stimulant and available at nearly every IOP. Of course, if you have ins. and a legit need you can get the $9/200mg US version. One downside is it can negate the effects of certain benzo's.
I have terrible chronic insomnia and Provigil helped in the day/night(I worked rotating 12's) but I was still left staring at the ceiling once I got home.

Turns out that in my silly little country (Sweden), you're not even allowed to buy caffeine pills anymore without a prescription from the almighty Frau Doktor. Apparently some kids tried to commit suicide by overdosing them so now noone's allowed to have them without prescription.
It's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. Must be our new fascist-christian government the brainless swing voters of this country were stupid enough to elect.

This is crazy!! I've always wanted to vist Sweden, but sol if I get a headache there.
There are two sizes of boxes of caffeine pills. The larger are prescription only, but anyone can buy the smaller one. But they didnt have the small one and the woman at the pharmacy said they weren't going to get them anymore.
But it turned out it's a delay in shipping from the manifacturer, so they will come back.

We have a product here called 5 Hour Energy. I use that whenever I need to be very alert, such as driving. It doesn't make you jittery and for me, lasts longer than 5 hours.
I also use DLPA. Without it, I am so lethargic that I can't do much of anything during the day. I sleep fine but all the medications I take cause drowsiness. DLPA has so many wonderful properties but energy is a big one.
Hey, These "stay awake" products are really great for immediate and short lasting "pick me ups" but you WILL crash!. If you are tired enough and fatigued, no matter what you do, you will eventually crash. But I find that the best way to wake up or get some energy...as crazy as it sounds...is to get your blood flowing. If i need some instant energy, I drop and do 30 push ups, or as many as I can do. Trust me when I say that this will wake you up, instantly. Aside from that and not alot of people know this fruit juice...real fruit juice will wake you up more than coffee will!
Hope this helps a little.

If you combine the herbs guarana, ephedra and ginseng you get a pretty good OTC stimulant. It really gets your behind moving fast LOL I used it in the past for stopping falling asleep. I have tried modafinil but did not like it very much but it has some effect.
Ritalin is absolutely great for taking care of sleepiness but I suppose you will not be able to get it in Sweden. It's much cleaner than OTC stimulants.

Sleeping well is your best option and you should work on achieving that... without drugs if you can manage it... Try to remove from your life the things that keep you from sleeping...
You are only going to get worst by taking drugs to fall asleep and drugs to keep you awake...

That 5 hour energy drink you can by at any gas station or pharmacy OTC. But from what I have read on reviews, it works different for everybody. I worked 3rd shift and the young guys would take this. I have a bottle of it myself but was always scared to take it. On the other hand it i all Vitamin B. I asked my pharmacists about it and he said it mat bring up your BP a little. But I have also read some horror stories about it when I googled it. Heart racing, trouble breathing and so forth.
Your best bet is try to get some sleep at night. Instead of sleeping pills, you needs to get something from your Doctor because it seems that your mind is not shutting off when you go to bed. There are meds for that and the doctor can find you a mild one that will fit you.
