If i use a jump drive w/my browser will this protect me from others on the network from seeing what websites I've been to & keep them from getting my passwords?

sorry, I'm really bad at keeping up with technology anymore, I use to be able to do anything or answer any questions, please help!

And all suggestions for programs to add to the jump drive, if necessary will be greatly appreciated, or any to add to the desktop to keep others from the network from sneaking around, without having passwords I have to give them to use the desktop!

If ALL that you are worried about is someone getting on your PC and seeing your PC history, then safest is a jump drive with Mozilla Firefox running on it.

If you mean "on your network" that is trickier. Network Admins can basically see anything and where it is going.

If that is the case, do a goggle search on TOR. That's it, just "TOR". This way of connecting hides your identity behind a bunch of hops to different sits. So say you WANT to browse certain websites, but do not WANT the network admin to know that packets from your PC are going to the i.p. address for www.fluffykittys.com.

Tor connects to a network of servers that route your browsing through this network, so that no one knows where you came from, or where you are going. (actually, it is possible, but not very likely at all the end period).

By using the USB thingy (technical term) all of the cache and temp files that would ordinarily reside on your hard drive, stay on the USB cache. Then when you are caught for being a corporate spy, you just crush it with your foot. Can't get no data off a smashed chip. (well, again, it can be done, but it would cost millions of dollars and waste countless lives).

Oh, and a good start is this website. Very simple, easy to understand, (written for civil servants).

On the down side, TOR can be slow, but you can't put a price on safety.

Unless you are Ford and you are selling Pintos, in which case you are worth about fifteen bucks...

I never use anything but firefox. It is great and when your done it automatically deletes your browser setting and click for the cookies. I love it. I check my computer every week and it always comes up clean.

A second vote for Firefox and Tor. Back in the day, we used to have programs that would check out anonymous proxies and go that direction, but it got pretty labor intensive to keep up your list.

I use Firefox as my browser, now matter what computer I'm at, (or jumpdrive), I don't think I would even know what Explorer looks like anymore!
