I did a year in Iraq recently and went outside the wire got hit by an IED and still went on missions after that, Im pretty sure I know all about anxiety..and still to me anxiety is nothing more than a form of fear but on the other hand I also get anxious when im about to put it in a girl if you know what im saying... but you dont see me falling to the ground taking up the fetal posistion and crying like a new born baby get real..some people honestly i can believe have a valid anxiety problem... Its so weird how some cant get a prescpt my friend went to her doctor and told her she gets scared driving and she got a scprit for .25 mg xanax.. my other friend told her doc that she was scared to be around the people at her job and she got 1mg maybe if you go your doc not sounding like a fiend and give him a reason hell write you up a spript for it... Dont mean to sound prejeduce but it seems females get a scrpit alot easier then a guy will

Some idiots were on TV discussing whether Soldiers and Marines should be allowed to smoke cigarettes (during health care talk). From what you saw, does smoking, drinking, pill popping go up in battle zones? Maybe a stupid, self evident question, do not mean to offend.

I was going to school, working full time, newly wed with a newborn child. I would leave home 7 am and 3 days a week not get home until 10pm because of school. Always to the xannies to deal with school right after work. When I got home I'd drink a beer...sometimes start on the second and wake up with it in my lap and the clock on the cable tv would show 2 or 3 am. complete blackout. Never had that drinking anykind of booze. I was in my 30's when this episode happened. No biggie really but any alcohol really intensifies the downer effect of Xanax. Just be careful. remember the college night with little money so everyone would drink before going out but you still spent all your cash and eventually pulled out the charge card to buy drinks? If i could go back i'd pop one 1mg xannie, drink two beers and be ready to hit the club for a few. I used steroids in college and that made me an [censored] in a bar setting. Xanax would have made for a much calmer nights without waking up with in police holding cell with citations or a bruised face from fighting. Just know your limits.

Oldandworn, I never met one person in the miliatry who had a script for xanax stateside or in a warzone,,, they prescribe seroquil like a mofo tho and ambien if your lucky but this is only after many trips to see the army shrink so..and yes peple in warzone do gets srcipts for pain killers such as tylonel with codiene, vicodine but I have seen seroquil been prescirbed alot never any benzo what soever...

Thanks for the info. My brother in law and his son are on seroquel but that house is a different kind of war zone. Isn't there a certain amount of uppers also? No need to reply if you feel you've said enough.

There are some occasions where Xanax is an absolute must.

Let me give an example, since I don't have situational anxiety or anything like that.

An older lady, with emphysema and who uses an oxygen tank about 10-12 hours a day, often has panic attacks because she has trouble breathing. Her doctor prescribed .25 mg of Xanax, 125 pills a month, and said she would be on them for the rest of her life (she's in her mid 70's)and he knew she would eventually have a dependency on them.

He explained everything about it, since she had never been on it before, and told her to make sure she never ran out and he would make sure she got her prescriptions on time every time.

So Xanax isn't just for people who are scared of going outside, or anxious about other situations or who have panic attacks not associated with her problems. There are other uses for it. So to the person who said it's all in your mind, watch a 70 year old person freak out because they think they can't breath. It's much more compassionate to give her Xanax in her later years than let her suffer from anxiety on top of all her other problems.

Xanax is also used along with anti-seizure medicine to control epileptic seizures. It's used for post traumatic stress syndrome. Ex: domestic violence and torture. Those are the 2 main reason's I have seen it prescribed. I'm sure it has many uses legit. I know from personal experience that when it is prescribed for a long term use, it comes with counseling, for the PTSS. For the epilepsy, I was made aware of the pro's and cons. I wasn't given it because I was afraid of driving, not allowed to drive anyway, or people or anything like that. Dilantin alone wasn't helping with the seizures. The combination of the 2 let me have 1 less worry. It's sad when people don't understand or judge why people take anything that gives them a better quality of life. Pain, seizures, panic attacks and straight up fear is worse then withdrawal. Withdrawal can be recovered from. Anything chronic can't.

anti seizure meds are used with xanax because xanax causes seizures..long term use of xanax will almost certainly induce seizures if stopped abruptly, that is why they prescribe the anti-seizure meds along with it.

Clonazepam would be the drug for that. To abort seizures, either an IV injection of a benzodiazepine or buccal midazolam liquid can be given by non-medical individuals who have been trained how to do it.

Diazepam rectal tubes and paraldehyde are alternatives.

Isn't phenobarbital used for this also? It does not do much else, IMO.

It would be very unusual for Xanax to be used in conjunction with other medications like Dilantin for any treatment of epileptic seizures.
I have never known a doctor to even use Xanax alone in epilepsy patients. It doesn't make any medical sense and could actually cause seizures if discontinued suddenly.
Drugs like Dilantin are often listed among the possible contraindications when Xanax is prescribed for major anxiety and panic attacks.
I think you were fortunate that you weren't prescribed it in combo and I'd
seriously wonder about any physician who would.

Yes it is, but only in a hospital setting, of in the presence of someone trained to give IVs. Buccal midazolam and diazepam rectal tubes can be given by parents of an epileptic child, for example.

Disregard the strong warnings at your own peril. Somehow "little" becomes harder and harder to accurately define as time goes on.

I can't believe people still try to justify their use of alcohol while on xanax. My Grandma thinks it's cute to tell everyone she has a "wine and xanax party" every night. I don't find it so cute. It says to me, "I don't respect my medication, and I don't respect myself." I don't drink, but I certainly would NOT drink on my medications. That's just me though - I find alcohol (with the very rare exception of 2-4 oz. red wine) to be a toxic poison and it has no place in my body.

Alcohol is a medicine too. That's how I look at it.

Xanax plus alcohol equals 2 times in jail for me. Different for everyone, makes me violent and have blackouts.

I know where you're coming from. I have no idea how many times I was picked up after benzos and alcohol. Never drank too much but with mixing it was just enough for three DUIs awhile back. No one wants a felony on their record. I'm just glad I crashed before something bad happened to anyone else.
