I am taking Metformin,Actos & Januvia.
The actos(30 tabs)is $200. Also the Januvia
is $200 for (30 tabs).Metformin is $12 at Costco.
Does anyone know of any generic meds to treat Diabetes 2 that are cheaper?
I want to replace the actos&januvia.
Of course I will consult with a PCP but
was hoping someone might steer me in the right direction.
Thank you in advance.

you can also get the metformin at walmart for 6 bucks if you take it 3 times a day. Metformin/glucophge i think works the best

I take Metformin and Glucotrol, which has a generic version. I'm not familiar with the others you mentioned or if they are new drugs. Most drug co's will come up with a "new and better" drug to replace the old who's patent is up, even tho it's practically the same drug. If your other 2 are new, ask your doc if there's something similar that has a generic, or the older version of that drug. It doesn't always work, but many times it does and can save you money.

Doesn't hurt to ask.

Metformin and pioglitazone are available in the UK as a compound tablet called Competact (metformin 850mg + pioglitazone 15mg. If this compound product id available in the US (not necessarily under the same brand name) it may save you a bit.

Like other posters mentioned, metformin is very cheap, or should be, but the others are a problem because there is no generic.

I cannot advise about diabetes, but can only list you what is available generically:

Sulphonylureas include:

glibenclamide

gliclazide

glimepiride

glipizide

These drugs often have to be taken in combination with other drugs. The other types of diabetic drugs are all proprietary as far as I know at this stage for type-2.

hi,i'm new to this thread...I found out today that i've developed diabetes...my blood level(if that makes sense) was 8.7 and quite frankly i'm really upset about the whole thing....is 8.7 really high or am I just worrying myself for nothing?
I'm waiting for a letter from the docs so can't really do anything until then.
just wondered if anyone had any advice...or am I being a drama queen?

You may be able to control it with diet, so no need to worry just yet. Normal blood-glucose levels are 4-8mmol/l, but can spike after meals. It depends when the measurements were taken.

molly, 8.7 is not hugely high (this is the A1C test which gives a picture of your blood sugar over a period of 3 months.) Normal is under 6.00. You may, as Nephro suggests, be able to get it under control by eating only complex carbs, exercising, and losing a modest amount of weight. As for effecting your life, since I doubt that you will need insulin to control your sugars, basically you will have to give up sweets (or face unpleasant consequences down the road.)

Molly, seriously, don't worry about those levels! You probably wouldn't even need medication if they don't go higher, and lots of things like stress, infection or illness really affect blood-sugar levels. You wouldn't need insulin, for example, unless your levels were much higher and oral meds didn't work.
