Woodstock was a defining moment for all of us "old hippies". I would have loved to have been there - but I was only 14 and lived in So Cal....

I remember watching all the news coverage....it was amazing.

I wanted to have a 40th Anniversary of Woodstock party this year but I wasn't able to make it happen. I really want to have a Woodstock party some day but I'm not going to do it until I can fit back into my hippie jeans. I wore these jeans for years back in the early 70's and they are so faded & covered with patches that it's hard to tell they were once indigo colored.

What really blows my mind is the fact that it's been 40 years since Woodstock!! God, where did the time go....

I once wrote a song about my hippie days...here's a few lines:

Take me back, take me back
To those bell-bottomed days
Of sewing patches on my Levi's
Wearing flowers in my hair....

I was actually ALMOST at Woodstock. I would have been too young to remember it, however, as I remember only one thing about the trip that took us about halfway there.

I remember kneeling on the seat of the bus and saying "Daddy, look, trailer like ours!" as it passed us by. The trailer with my dad's music equipment was pulled behind our bus, it came unhooked as we went down a hill. Total sum of my memories of that trip. My "Irish Twin", Bluefairy, is jealous, she does not even have that memory.

I like your lyrics. It sounds like you get very nostalgic like I do. Sometimes when I listen to some of the songs from that era I tear up. Those days meant sooo much to us. love5

Thanks, novakitty. I do get very nostalgic (and somewhat emotional) when I think about those times. Most of the music on my iPod is from that era - lots of CSN&Y, Canned Heat, Dan Fogleberg, and so on. I think the main reason is because life was so carefree. If you want, I'll PM you the rest of the lyrics.

"Kharman Ghia or VW?"

It's a Porsche 356c, You incredible moron :>)
You are a male of the species and supposed to know these things !
I'm gonna let you off though, since you're posting Creedence lyrics. rofl5

Anyway, Porsche built the 356 line for years before building the 911.
My cousin had several. Interesting cars, had about 90hp and were lucky to hit 100mph.
Great fun to drive as one had to steer the car constantly, even in a straight line. The rear end was always trying to get ahead of the front.
Great fun on wash board dirt roads, as one could throw the thing sideways and hold a broad slide forever.

Enough about cars.
Woodstock ? Didn't really hear about it till the deal was going down and it was 1000 miles away.
Kudo's to those who went, but I had just soon watch on the tube.
Hendrix Star Spangled banner ?
Opened up a whole new world, and Joe Cocker and the Rotating Rockers ? Too Much.
The end of the 60's, really, as next came the Stones concert & Death and then Charlie Mansion and his Merry Band.
All of a sudden the older generation began looking at the young with fear or hate.

A time of extremes; Landing on the Moon, Woodstock, Vietnam, protest, assassinations, nationwide riots, etc.
Like all of America on Speed ? Good & Bad ?
Strange Times ?

Someone on the morning shows pointed out that it was 40 years from the beginning of the Great Depression till Woodstock and it has been 40 years since to this Great "Whatever it is ?"

Interesting ?
The music lives on. That's something, right ?
Peace

Woodstock sounded like a living Hell to me (I don't like crowds and mud, and I've heard that most of the music sucked.)

I had the album back then. The soundtrack. I liked it. A matter of taste. Not for Punk Rockers.

To be fully appreciated, the music required some artificial enhancement on the listener's part. I'll leave it at that...

I imagine that for it's day, the music sounded fine - it's just that music re-production is so much better now. I loved the album then (and the movie) and I love all that music still. I haven't checked but I imagine the album has been re-mastered by now. But, being there was probably a whole different listening experience. I'm amazed that with all the rain people didn't get electrocuted.
