Below is the news I have a question on. PLEASE HELP if you can. I emailed senator Vitter to ask for a copy of the bill, but no response yet. I would like to read every letter of the law, and how this new law applies to online pharmacies.
(i.e. Is this just for Canadian Pharmacies? Does this cut out oversight for pharmacies from other places? How does this effect distributors, etc. pillwhite

Senate Votes to Permit Importation of Medications from Canada
The United States Senate has approved a plan that would allow patients in the US to obtain prescription medications from Canada over the Internet, the Associated Press (AP) reported on July 9, 2009. Sponsored by Louisiana Republican David Vitter, the plan was approved 55-36. These provisions were included in a bill funding the Customs Department and other homeland security agencies, a final version of which is pending, AP reports. Opponents of the idea say it will exacerbate the problem of illegally operating Internet drug outlets, many of which call themselves “Canadian Pharmacies” but are not licensed and do not adhere to Canadian safety regulations. Food and drug Administration (FDA) has warned for years that medications purchased from unapproved foreign sources are not subject to FDA safety and efficacy standards and, as such, their authenticity, purity, and safety are unknown.

Translation: We want our domestic big-pharma companies to bilk our citizens for as many overpriced medications as possible, and we'll do everything we can to keep big-pharma happy (and making huge campaign contributions).
