I have severe insomnia where I will go days without quality sleep and get "goofy" and hurt myself and not recall one bit of it. I have tried everything. I usually rotate Halcion and Ativan when i'm having trouble.
I told my psych (after an incident where I fell on the concrete scraping various places and half my face) that I needed something to either put me down or restrain me, or my hubby was going to have to take me to the psychward when I got like that.
He gave me Zyprexa Zydis, 15mg. The pharmacy had to special order it, and it's very expensive. Luckily for me it was only 15.00, but insurance paid the pharmacy over 600.00 for 30 of them.
I took one before I needed it to make sure I would have no reactions to it. It dissolves under your tongue and takes affect very very quickly. I took it around 11 pm and slept like a rock until 2 pm the next day. I haven't had to take another one, which is great. My hubby has control of them for me, but, it's really not necessary since if I took one, I'd be out very soon.
I just wanted to pass along what my psychiatrist gave me that works in an extreme situation.
I did look it up on rxlist.com and I know what zyprexa is. I'm on other meds though, so don't need to take it nightly, even though he gave me one every day, along with 1 mg. of Halcion. I guess he's pretty generous with the meds, or it's just me, who knows?

Zyprexa has a colorful history regarding very serious side effects that were initially hidden from the FDA during its introduction as an atypical antipsychotic back in the mid-90's. If these were not completely explained to you by your doctor, please educate yourself through some personal research. While this drug obviously does not affect every patient in the same way, it is a very powerful medication with a long list of potential unwanted and unexpected contraindications. It always helps to be aware and able to react to any complications you might encounter. Hopefully your physician was professional in his treatment of you and I am suggesting something that you have already had explained. Zyprexa can be a really tricky med.
