Oxycontin will give me a headache sometimes and I don't really get headaches. I'm not a doctor, but when a lot of people were getting oxys 10 years ago they all complained of headaches, the high causes like a stress. I'm not speaking just for myself, but just about everybody I ever knew that took it.
And if you think I'm full of s*it, if I told you my medical/injury history, the operations, the hospitals, every medication you can think of, I don't have to be a doctor to know what effects certain meds have, especially since I'm not the only one.

Look up trigeminal nerve pain also known as suicide pain my tumor and the surgery give me these types of headaches. Heart rate spikes over 150BPM puking for days dehydrated so bad I eventually go to the ER. I agree oxy does not work for me but this is as serious as it gets my friend not something to tell people to get some Excedrin pm and suffer. Things only got worse for me .I feel you are just giving you r situation credit when everyone will respond different to a lot of treatments different triptans work for me some do not sometimes nothing works. And some will have a rare tumor like me this is a lifetime deal for me.

Have a great day everyone with Chronic conditions

For those who are saying Hydro/Darvo/etc... don't work on migraines, not every body has the same chemical makeup.

I'm one who gets no relief from Imitrex, Maxalt, Relpax, or anything of that type. Midrin did no good.

I'm allergic to Ibuprofen...swells every joint in my body. Allergic to Torodol, Medrol, Sulfa-drugs, Bactrim, Erythromyacin, Cephalexin, Penecillin, and the list goes on. Topomax caused the worst moodswings I've ever experienced.

The muscle relaxers I'm taking now just make me sleepy, no relief or prevention of the headaches. Luckily I don't have BP problems, so when BP goes up it is from pain. And when the pain is such that 4 extra-strength Tylenol don't help, I'm taking Darvocet & Promethazine and going to bed. If some combo of drugs allows you to get through the day without problems--keep taking it, even when someone else says it couldn't possibly work.

My PM doc won't prescribe Darvocet and Lortab to me at the same time. Something about "that just isn't done". I tried to make them understand I take one and keep functioning...I take the other and go to bed. Really screws up working or doing anything else.

I'm currently looking for a PM doc that will work with me and EXPLAIN things.

Loc: My own theoretically ideal wor...
One of my combos that I used to get was:daytime migraine that was bad but could still semi-function; fironayl w cod (sp?) And meclizine.
Ones where I needed to rest it off/close eyes: tylenol 3 (sometimes T4) and phenergan. (If maxalt or zomig or amerge didn't help)
Ones where I was vomiting and I wanted to lop my head off: mepergan and compazine.
(Stadol ns a while back instead of mepergan) sometimes I have to go to the dr.office for stadol/phenergan injection.

There are a few changes here and there over the years. But your doctor has to understand different meds for different times and types of headpain.

I haven't had to use my 'level red-alert' meds in a few months. My preventative meds have been effective for keeping the really bad ones away.
I'm definately not headache/migraine free, but its been a difference.

Explain to your doctor that sometimes you HAVE to rest off the pain to break that cycle.

Good luck.

What I can't get my doc to understand is that I *can't* sleep off every migraine.
I still have to be able to function and take care of daily tasks. My kids are good, but they aren't old enough to cook unsupervised. Clothes don't wash themselves. House doesn't clean itself. Work doesn't get done by itself. Cat is independent, but even he can't open his food containers.

What he is 'scribing MAKES me sleepy, and my continuing to motivate through that sleepiness just means I have gone to taking a higher dose to get the "sleep it off" stage when I need it. And now he is acting like I'm a drug-head.

See? Need diff doc.

Odd as it seems, the Darvo will kill the pain enough that it and the nausea med will then send me to sleep. But I don't need to sleep all day every day...so I'm looking for a different doc who will 'scribe "day" and "night" med combos.
