I need to find a new pcp. My FM has flared up since my having my baby by c/s a month ago. I can't decide whether to seek out a Family Practice or Internist type doctor. Ultimately I'd like to see a Rheumatologist (pretty sure I need a referral, they are scarce in my area) or a pain management doctor if a PCP can't/won't help. My case is complicated (whose isn't?) and I can't take some of the standard meds like SSRI's, or SNRI's antidepressants, Elavil doesn't do much. I trie Tramadol and it made me NUTS! so I'm not interested in that route again. Then there's Lyrica, never tried it, but I've already been put on meds for a mood disorder that made me gain weight and develop diabetes. Not interested in that either.

Sorry for the long story. I look forward to hearing your opinions!

Who diagnosed your fibro? Was it not a Rheumatologist?

If you were not diagnosed by one, you need to see one as soon as possible. Most doctors do not even acknowledge a diagnosis of fibro as official unless it was done by a Rheumatologist, but there is a more important reason.

There are several disorders and diseases that have similar symptoms, and most of these can have severe consequences if not treated properly. A rheumatologist is the only specialist that would have the appropriate training and experience to distinguish the difference between fibro as a stand alone disorder and the initial stages of lupus, for example.

That is a very important point.

May I ask what type of doctor did reach the diagnosis of fibromyalgia?

It was just a GP, not a rheumatologist. I've been dx'd twice.
