I've had fm for more than 10 years now. I just had my 4th baby 1 week ago via emergency c-section. I remember with my last baby I had a minor flare up at first that eventually grew worse (due to an injury that led to shoulder surgery). I'm wondering/afraid that this time the recovery will be way more likely to result in a FM flare-up.

Anyone with experience that can share? I'm already so sore from the pregnancy and delivery, not to mention other weird pains I can't explain. I appreciate any and all advice!

I did not usually have flares after the birth, just during.

My fibro is a symptom of Lupus, not a stand alone diagnosis, so I am not sure it that is relevant.

I am a male but I am a nurse. I have my BSN. I will tell you this and it really is common sense when you think about it and its broken down for you. FM is pain from muscles and nerves well when you go through an experience like giving birth obviously your muscles are put under a lot of pressure thus so is the nerves in your muscles. So yes you might have a flare up but with FM it could be light or it could be a hardcore flare up. FM is one of the things that nobody really understands right now and sadly I think it's going to be a while before good treatments are out there for it and we gain more knowledge about it. Hope this helps you.

I had fibro before pregnancy. But pregnancy seems to have exaggerated my symptoms, along with my arthritis. So much so that I can't have another child. I can barely take care of one.
Since women tend to have fibro, and it is often worsened with pregnancy, and I don't know about you but I have a major flare during pms, I often wonder if it is hormone related.

Fibro and hormones.Only my opinion but I think that fibro flares or pain is made much worse by hormones. My pain this past year has increased and I think it may be due to peri-menopause.After 6 children, the youngest 2 are 12 and 15 and I have had this since 2001,it is hard enough to take care of those 2 these past 9 yrs so my heart goes out to anyone dealing with this during pregnancy and while taking care of a new born.beach

According to Dr. T, whenever his patients say their fibro is getting worse, he always asks them how they are sleeping. Almost always they say they are sleeping worse. He goes on to say that when he treats the patient's sleep disorder properly, then the fibro symptoms improve.

If hormones are involved, most of the time it has something to do with thyroid function.

It may be possible for menopause to affect other things such as I mentioned above which in turn affect fibromyalgia, but the cause and effect might not be direct. Then again, nobody really knows for sure.
