I have been taking hydro for approx 5 years for a horrible chronic condition. I have Trigeminal neuralgia. Well least to saydealing with the medical field has been a nightmare. My current Dr has been treating me for 2 years now. I had a appointment yesterday and he changed my meds. No explaination.. just changed them to Ms cotin.. It gave me a horrible headache and made me feel awfull. Nothing has changed with my condition. Does anyone know anything about this med. It is called kadian. Is this stronger than hydro?. I do know it was more expensive than hydro. I missed work today due to feeling so bad from taking this med. Any info woulod be appreciated. Thank you .

Yes it's stronger than Hydro.
It is time-released morphine.

He probably switched you to get the time-released benefit; assuming you were on a "high" dose of Hydro.

Try taking a little less, and if you don't get "used" to it, let your doctor know.

yes, he gives me hydro 7.5 x 4daily. I just hate the way it made me feel. I felt real drugged. I know 4 daily seems like alot to most but this has been over years. I will always have this condition unless i have brain surgeryand those odds are slim. I was doing fine on my regular meds. i just dont know why mess up a good thing. .. thank you for your answer.

Hi all. I have a problem that I really need advice from some of the smart folks here to help me with!

I ordered generic Vicodin 7.5's and received them 2 days ago. I have taken Hydros many times, including 7.5's. Though I usually take the 10's for pain.
I took my first one yesterday and it made me sooooo sick.
I had so much pain in my stomach and I ended up vomiting 3 different times. That helped the pain in my stomach, but not the headache that now doesn't want to go away!
I have NEVER had this kind of reaction from Hydros in my life.

They were different looking pills than I've ever had before. Chalky, and much bigger. They are Watsons.
Has anyone had a reaction like this? Do you think I'm now out over $100 and can't take these particular pills? If so, why on Earth? Why these and no others? Could they be bad in some way? I feel awful today. Just awful, my head is pounding, and my stomach STILL feels nauseous. UGH!

Any info here would be so appreciated!

Thank you..........

Angelseakr,

Could you tell me how can you tell if they're "Norcos"? I'm not sure I've ever had those. Are they a brand or a generic? Sorry, I'm just confused.

Sin --

I usually take 10/500's (generic blue watson's) but when i had my last kidney stone a month or so my doctor gave me Hydrocodone 7.5/750's (The Generic Watson's That are HUGE WHITE and Chalky).. If I took them, I got SUPER naseaus and I have been on and off hydro for a long time. NEVER had a reaction like this. I think it has something to do with all the extra tylenol in them. I stopped using them and got some 10's and POOF the stomach upset and vomitting and nasueass stopped. I did find taking Reglan (RX only) or over the counter dramamine helped a bit when I FIRST started feeling the naseauseness come on Then I would lay down til it kicked in. That seemed to help until I could get my 10's. I had to take something for the two kidney stones and the kidney infection. See if you can get the 10's that u usually take and see if you notice a difference. If so, (like me) it's prolly the extra tylenol.

I hope you feel better ( I know what hell that is)

Hi,

I found 1/2 a prescription for Vicodin ES that I had been looking for about two years ago in my old shaving kit. The label says to discard after 07/15/03. My current prescriptions always say to discard one year after the date filled.
Generally, the FDA is extraordinarily cautious in all of their regulations so I'm thinking they are fine and that there is no need to toss about $20 worth of a med down the drain.
Would anyone know how long Vicodin is safe to keep? I wouldn't be surprised if the real answer is 5 years or more as I came across some drug [not a narcotic] while searching online where the previous three year expiration was now updated to being safely used five years later for pills made three years ago. I think it might have been Cipro.

Thanks in advance
Mike Walsh

If it is a dark bottle, and has been kept in a cool dark area they should still have some pain relief left to them.

I heard that the expiration indicates the pill will lose it's strength, not sure whether it's true. My pharmacist told me this about another med I was taking and when it expired I inquired about it. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Thanks, Llarissa, I definitely canNOT take these pills. Maybe if I get the nausea med I'll be able to take them, but then they'd probably still give me the bad headache. So I guess I'm just out the money I spent on them. Oh well, live and learn...right?

I am going to try Zydone and see if I can take these, I think I can because they have much less Tylenol in them.
I sure hope so!

Better luck to all......and have a pain free day!

SinDerella....you are most likely having some sort of side effects from the hydro itself. It says that headaches, nausea and vomiting are side effects. I'm not so sure it's the tylenol, but you can get hydro without tylenol, called norco's.

Thanks Prisjean! I appreciate your reply. You may be right about why they made me sick. All I know is I can't take them, but I have some Zydone and I took one today, it helped me a LOT! Didn't make me sick at all. So, I'm happy about that. I just will stay away from the Watson 387's from now on!

I found a whole script of 30 7.5 in a bag I had packed on vacation 6 or 7 years ago. I took one when in pain and they seemed just fine. I couldn't even say they had lost any strength

The worst thing is they will not be as potent as new. How and where stored would make the difference in the speed they loose their potency. Such as humidity, sunlight, temperature and etc.

Hi all,

I have a question about Hydros that may seem bizarre to some. Well, it's bizarre to ME!

I have noticed that when I take Hydros, usually the Zydone 10's lately. But, it has been all hydros 7.5-10. When I take them, after I fall asleep or just as I am falling asleep I begin to SUCK my tongue! I know....BIZARRE! It's almost like it's a pacifier. I am a grown woman, and I just don't know what to make of this. Do you think the Hydros are bringing out some latent habit? It's only when I get sleepy...and only when I take Hydros. When I realize I'm doing it, I usually feel very relaxed, and sometimes I actually wake myself up doing it.

I know....it's very odd. Has anyone here heard of this or had this or anything similar happen to them?

Honestly..I'm NOT nuts! LOL Just confused.

Hi Sin, I've never heard of that one, but it's not terribly surprising I guess. You're probably in a very relaxed, dreamy state - perhaps going through a sub-concious second childhood? ;-)

At least you're not like my cat. (No, I don't give him hydro!) When I stroke his fur, he drools.

I wouldn't worry about it!

Why is it that hydrocodone slows some people down and speeds other people up?I only know that it has to do with a persons chemistry, but thats all I know. Thanks
