i think it is a miracle drug. i believe it has saved my life. at first when i moved and went to antoehr psych, i was EXTREMELY pissed about her taking me off xanax and putting me on klonopin. now, several years later i think she saved my life, by introducing me to one of the ONLY drugs that helps me in anyway. after using them as prescribed they are basically impossible to abuse, as a 2 mg dose will feel the same as a 10 mg dose. there is no high. you are jsut calm. i love it. and it creats a stable blood level so you never go up or down. thats why there is no *high* i think. 2 years on 2 mgs and have never needed to up the dose, unlike xanax which i felt i needed to up daily. definatly the methadone of benzos, and the easiest to get prescribed. i see no difference in taking klonopin your whole life, or taking asprin or a blood pressure pill, or an antipsychotic for a psychotic person, your whole life. if it works, then why not just use it and quit worrying about addiction. everybody is dependent on something. that is different than addiction. i think addiction means seeking more and more to try and regain those initial recreational effects, or avoid withdrawls. dependency is a WHOLE different issue. some people just happen to need medication their whole lives. my grandma has been on xanax for 25 years and she will be till the day she dies. she has never upped her dose and it causes her no ill effects. just helps her get through the day. just my 2 cents, but i would strongly recomend this drug to anyone suffering anxiety or panic. peace everyone

If you just want relief from your anxiety klonopin is the best way to go about it. I took valium for 19 years and the doc decided it was time to get off it. It was hell and a half and it took 3 years before all the withdrawal symptoms finally stopped. I had times when my body jerked so hard it felt like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat.
Then after 10 years of controlling my anxiety my self I found the NROP's and started using xanax . That was a huge mistake . I took it until all the NROP's shutdown (about a year and a half)and the withdrawl was worse than valium. I used valium to get the xanax out of my system for 2 weeks then went to klonopin and it does the trick with my anxiety and there is not much of any euphoria so I can controll my dosage. If you just want relief go with klonopin.I've taken some 30 odd years to find the right drug for me.Now all I need is 1mg. twice a day to have a halfway normal life.

Good for You! I am on a low dose of xanax and afraid of its long term consequences. I had read other good thing about Klonopin. Maybe I'll go that way. Decades ago I was a big V user. Thank God I didn't get too dependent.

Just wanted to say that if you do decide to go off your Xanax for good then you should take Klonopin...due to risk of seizure when Xanax is suddenly stopped! Klonopin is also prescribed for seizures, but you probably already know this already!

Klonopin also carries a risk of seizures if you abruptly stop taking it.

I agree. I have been using klonopin for over 8 years now and I have never felt drugged, high or anything. I feel like a normal person. I suffered all my life with panic attacks that literally controlled my life. I wouldn't drive at night, go anywhere by myself, and basically lived a panic filled life. My doctor put me on klonpin 1 mg a day and 2 mg at night. I have been on the same dose since day one and have gotten my life back.

I also got pregnant twice in those eight years and stopped taking klonopin during my pregnancy (because I do not believe in taking anything during pregnancy) and I had absolutely no withdrawel synptoms whatsoever. I had many panic attacks during those months but I knew it was the best for my unborn child and that's what got me through. As soon as my children where born I went right back on klonopin. I did not breast feed. That is just my personal experience. Everyone has different tolerance levels to different drugs.I hope my input will help you or anyone else to decide what is best for you.

This is the ending of another post. Probably better placed here. I've read through these threads but am looking specifically for those whom have used both valium and klonopin--

How would you compare the two? Having used valium (and a long-term low-dose stint with xanax, now basically discontiuned due to short half life) the curiousity 'n brouhaha over clonazepam is killin' me ...

how long do you all think that klonopin gives relief ( i mean how many hours) i know its half life is at LEAST 18 hours but do you people get relief for this long? i have noticed other people state they only feel the anxiolytic effect for eight hours, but i personally take my whole dose in the morning just once a day and i think it works great....any opinions?

I have used Valium 10 mg for several months at a time, high doses. I got to where it would take 4 of the blues to just to give some relaxation. Of course anything can be abused--and back then (early nineties) I was a bit out of control.

I have never 'abused' K in this way. It would wreck me for entire DAY or more!!! In fact, the most important differnces between the two are potency (K is much more potent) and duration of action (K is roughly 2-3 times longer lasting).

Half-life is just a number my man, and for various reasons such as individual variations in a drug's lipid solubility, can be practically meaningless. People will metabolize drugs at different rates, but a single does of K 2 mg can usually be counted on for 8-12 hours.

I was given Klonopin in use with my pain meds for my muscle jerking....I took 2mg only at night for a total of 2 weeks and all it did for me was knock me out and almost the whole day after taking it i will still a zombie...my body didnt adjust too well to the medication and I didnt like feeling that way so I have about 200 pills of it that do me no good....I still have the jerking in all my muscles so should i try it again and give it a little longer to see if that feeling wears off and goes away? I stopped taking it several months ago but this jerking is really keeping me up all night long. thanks

Dae~
I was prescribed clonazepam for anxiety/panic attacks.
I never had "twiching", so I can not comment on that.
They did work well for the issues I was prescribed though.
From what I read in previous posts, I thought valium was mentioned for that, but I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. lol!
Why don't you "search", or confer with another user more familiar with it's use.
There is a new, pricey, RX, dealing with that particular issue, just can't reacall the name...
Good luck,
kts

PS~ Still can't recall the new drug name, that deals primarily with Restless Leg Syndrome.
But, in searching (Google), twitches, there is all kinds of suggestions, ranging rom supplements, calcium, magnesium, iron, etc... to flexeril. Happy Googling, and Good Luck!

I think the med you are talking about is called Requip??? Not sure tho but that is what the doc rx'ed to my sis in law for the RLS...she says it works about 15% of the time...i dont even know if it is RLS i have or not but at times my whole body does the jerking thing....you know how it feels when you first wake up and you strech your whole body and it feels good? my legs i have to do that all the time with them and i have my kids lay on my legs for the weight and it feels like streeching them and it feels good...I dont know what that is at all....just like tonight my body is doing the jerking thing and i cant sleep at all. I dont do to well with benzos at all and prefer not talking them. i dont want to have that to worry about if you know what i mean

I know some folks who can happily get away with a single dose before bed or at breakfast but my metabolism is incredibly fast so I need to take 2mg 3 times a day for relief.

To anyone curious about Klonipin, there's not much to it so I wouldn't get too excited. That is, unless you are excited by a med that you can barely tell you took because it's felt effects are much lower than most of the other benzos. It is still a very strong benzo, but after taking it regularly for more than a week or so and it begins to work fairly transparently. It IS a very powerful drug though, and if you run out and don't have more, it's w/d's are just as ugly as most other benzos.

That's why I like it though, it just works w/o making me want to take more (unlike xanax or ativan or some of the others)...

Good luck..

HTH,
Stits

Good info, i've been on valium off and on for decades and have been on klonipin long enough to have taken a few thousand of them, so i'd say that the main differences (besides strength per-pill) is that Valium has much more of a muscle-relaxing effect that often gives new users 'good' feelings' that lead to habitual use, but IMO it's the best benzo to taper with due to its easy & cheap availability and quite low strength. As stits said, Klonipin is much stronger than Valium, actually about the same strength as xaxax. Most compairison charts show .5mg of klonipin/xanax/ativan is roughly equal to 10mg of valium, so if you were taking 4 10mg valium you were effectively taking the same as about 2mg of xanax neither of which I would call a high dose. When I occasionally switch from klonipin back to valium to get my tolerance lower, I initially have to take around 8 - 10 blue valium a day to equal the 'healing power' of klonipin 2mg 3 times a day. It sure makes a 300-count order of valium go fast! I do differ from stits in that no matter how much (within reason!) klonipin I take, I feel nothing but possibly sleepy. The most i've ever taken was about 14 mg of klonipin at one time and I personally couldn't tell the difference between that & my regualar dose except for it doing it's usual job. That's another thing I like about Klonipin, I have no desire to 'just take 1 more' because even if I take 10 more I still won't feel any different other than possible anger that I wasted that many at once. Maybe a little bit more sleepy, but most likely not even that. But then, 10mg of xanax doesn't really bother me either while most folks I know are asleep on the couch 30 minutes after taking 1 or 2 mg of xanax..

I don't take opiates regularly either, but when the rare occasion rises I need to take 50-60mg of hydro or 60-80mg of oxy to even feel it working... and i've NEVER abused opiates and 99% of the year my body is opiate (and opiate tolerance) free yet first dose and the rest have to be 5x as much as it should. Weird... and darn expensive when I need it!

One more thing, it does sound like you are describing Requip. My step-father who is in his mid-70s was recently prescribed it for the same symptoms you described. I have no idea how well it's working for him as he's only been on it a couple weeks, but I am curious about that one. I need to do some research into what drug family it's in and whether it might be a decent non-benzo alternative for certain symptoms. I have jerking muscle spasms in my left arm and leg from an old accident and benzos seem to work the best for me. BUT if there was an alternative that wasn't so darned addictive and hard to come off of, i'd gladly change!

Good luck..

Something to consider - you say you took 'only' 2mg of klonipin at night, but honestly if you have little or no tolerance to benzos, or are particularly sensitive to them, that's a fairly high starting dose. 2mg is the biggest klonipin pill available, and many people are able to get by very well just taking the .25 or .5 mg klonipin wafers. If it were me, i'd probably try again, but this time cut those 2mg tabs into 4 pieces and just take one of them. That is still equal to about 10mg of valium, so if that's a strong dose for you it's possible to cut that 1/4 piece in half if you're reeeally careful. I would say the hangover-effect you were feeling was caused by you being on a dose much higher than you needed to be on. Just my 2 very devalued cents of course..

I love Klonipin! After years of problems sleeping- twitching, legs jumping, thrashing, kicking, hitting, night mares, night terrors, talking and screaming in my sleep, this medicine is a miracle!
I cant believe it took ten years (i am 34 now) to realize it was a problem and it was not 'all in my head' like some docs made me feel. Last month my Pain Mngmt doc prescribed it. WOW. No hangover effect, unless i take 2 pills.
Docs are funny, some plain stupid. Ive told other docs of my problems with sleep, and no one would prescribe anything.. or the med just did not help. Last year i told my primary care doc of problem, i asked to try Ambien, and he called in Trazadone, i told him that stuff did not work in past so why bother? He is an ignorant jerk. When i was in my 20's i used Atarax, good results, but causes me to sleepwalk and forget where i am.
The first time i took Klonipin, i woke up laying exacly as i was when i went to bed.. Felt like i had really slept for once! I use alot of pillows inder my legs, etc.. and they were all where i left them. Usually the pillows and blankets are tossed all about the room. And my hubby even noticed! I am glad i found relief, especially for my hubby, as my restless leep was keeping him awake,, really was bugging the poor guy.I would move around too much and i have even kicked and punched him ( not just an accident - i remember dreaming and fighting sometimes) and he doesnt have to wake up with a black eye anymore! and im not afraid sleep next to him anymore.. it was so bad that i would leave the bed to sleep on couch. Things were real bad.. scary too. my dreams were so intense and real that i was having problems separting reality and what i dreamed, i know it sounds stupid but its like what i dreamed really happened.
And i would 'wake up' and see 'apparitions' or a'demon-looking' black figure at the end of my bed on more than one occasion, no matter where i was or who i was with. I know I am not crazy, just have a very active imagination.

Klonopin: i love you. And especially my new doctor for saving me!

With all the problems with the "new generation' of 'safe' 'non narcotic' pills, i think ill just stick with the good, old fashioned, natural, narcotics!! if it makes the pain go away, and it works, whos to say im an addict?? howcome i wasnt an addict before, when i was taking 10 -20 advils every day, drinking whiskey, pain, banging my head into walls cause the pain in neck and head was so intense? What is safer: advil, jack daniels, and head smashing, or oxycodone, no head smashing, and no booze, since i have no more desire to drink away the misery and pain??
?
?

have a great day. thanks for your time.

Pretty much all of the 2mg clonazepams are white. At least all that I've seen. I believe the name brand 1 mg Klonopins with the K cut in them are also blue. -BuckeyeFan

So I just heard from my neurologist that WD from even small doses of clonozepam is more likely to cause seizures than any other benzodiazapenes. I've generally heard this (so a slow taper is always the way to go but this is sometimes not so easy to do). Has anyone using them suffered seizures?
