i had a scary episode two nights ago,i was under alot of stress,my son who is very hyper, had a bad day.he was into everything, picking on the dog, climing, jumping, detroying things, then my boyfriend come home late drunk, and i was fumed.i started getting these weird muscle spasms on my upper left cheekbone, about one and a half inch below my eye.you could actually see my cheek moving in and out.i went to bed, then yesterday about noon it started again,i had to drive two hours out of town with my daughter, this went off and on all day long.i wore glasses because4 it was really embarrasing, along with being scary,i would be at the register, and all of the sudden it started twitching, and it was very noticable.today so far so good, but a few of my meds i didnt take thinking maybe they might be the culprits, even though i did call my pharmacist yesterday, and she thought i just needed a good nights rest and lots of fluids.does anyone have any idea what this was? i sure hope it doesnt come back, just in case it was an isolated incident,i dont know whether to tell the dr or not? i also noticed i sleep on that side, and last night it was twitching nonstop,so i had to sleep on the other side, which helped, any advice??

I've seen this nervous twitch with clients I treat for anger management, but have seen it as you describe in colleagues who one minute don't have it, but when a touchy subject comes up, oops, there goes the twitch. From my experience as a licensed psychotherapist, the twitching is always associated with anger that is being suppressed. Maybe you could just objectively look at yourself in a mirror when this is occuring, and rather than be afraid, look at your eyes, the expression, if you look tense, and then really think about how you're feeling. If you are holding back much anger, it can manifest itself as a tic, such as you describe.
