Phentermine

Each phentermine hydrochloride capsule contains phentermine hydrochloride, 30 mg (equivalent to 24 mg Phentermine).


Phentermine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine with pharmacologic activity similar to the prototype drugs of this class used in obesity, the amphetamines. Actions include central nervous system stimulation and elevation of blood pressure. Tachyphylaxis and tolerance have been demonstrated with all drugs of this class in which these phenomena have been looked for.

Drugs of this class used in obesity are commonly known as "anorectics" or "anorexigenics." It has not been established that the action of such drugs in treating obesity is primarily one of appetite suppression. Other central nervous system actions, or metabolic effects may be involved, for example.

Adult obese subjects instructed in dietary management and treated with "anorectic" drugs, lose more weight on the average than those treated with placebo and diet, as determined in relatively short-term clinical trials.



WARNINGS

Tolerance to the anorectic effect usually develops within a few weeks. When this occurs, the recommended dose should not be exceeded in an attempt to increase the effect; rather, the drug should be discontinued.

Phentermine hydrochloride may impair the ability of the patient to engage in potentially hazardous activities such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle; the patient should therefore be cautioned accordingly.

drug Dependence: Phentermine hydrochloride is related chemically and pharmacologically to the amphetamines. Amphetamines and related stimulant drugs have been extensively abused, and the possibility of abuse of phentermine hydrochloride should be kept in mind when evaluating the desirability of including a drug as proof of a weight reduction program. Abuse of amphetamines and related drugs may be associated with intense psychological dependence and severe social dysfunction. There are reports of patients who have increased the dosage to many times that recommended. Abrupt cessation following prolonged high dosage administration results in extreme fatigue and mental depression; changes are also noted on the sleep EEG. Manifestations of chronic intoxication with anorectic drugs include severe dermatoses, marked insomnia, irritability, hyperactivity, and personality changes. The most severe manifestation of chronic intoxications is psychosis, often clinically indistinguishable from schizophrenia.

Usage in Pregnancy: Safe use in pregnancy has not been established. Use of phentermine hydrochloride by women who are or who may become pregnant, and those in the first trimester of pregnancy, requires that the potential benefit be weighed against the possible hazard to mother and infant.

Usage in Children: Phentermine hydrochloride is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age.


PRECAUTIONS

Caution is to be exercised in prescribing phentermine hydrochloride for patients with even mild hypertension.

Insulin requirements in diabetes mellitus may be altered in association with the use of phentermine hydrochloride and the concomitant dietary regimen.

Phentermine hydrochloride may decrease the hypotensive effect of guanethidine.

The least amount feasible should be prescribed or dispensed at one time in order to minimize the possibility of overdosage.


Phentermine Hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder, very soluble in water and alcohol. Chemically, the product is phenyl-tertiary-butylamine hydrochloride. Inactive Ingredients: F D & C Blue 1, Methylcellulose, Polyethylene Glycol, Starch, Titanium Dioxide, Sucrose and Invert Sugar. The branding ink used on the gelatin capsules contains: Ethyl Alcohol, F D & C Blue 1 Aluminum Lake, Isopropyl Alcohol, n-Butyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Pharmaceutical Shellac (modified) or Refined Shellac (Food Grade).

Anyone ever hear of interactions betweeen Wellbutrin & Phentermine? I find my self packing on some pounds now that I'm off my pain meds for almost 2 months. I take 450mg Wellbutrin XL daily, for two years now, for depression & ADD. I'm looking for something that will suppress my appetite and give me some pep, I find myself eating more now-I got addicted to carbs now I'm not Norco dependent??? Anyways I want a jump start on losing the wieght, I can't fit in any of my clothes. I took Phentermine a few years aback and it was a miracle! Anyone know if it will have bad interaction w/Wellbutrin?

CandyKitty, I think because they're both stimulants, there may be an increased risk of having seizures.
I recently tried Wellbutrin again, after having bad luck the first time, and after three days of a low dose, quit again. Wellbutrin is known for decreasing one's appetite, but it made me want to gorge, and it just made me feel so detached from my emotions and totally unable to concentrate. I know it can be very helpful for some people, but it was a horrible drug for me. I took it for three days, and it took my three days to recover from it. I had horrible migraines too, and was basically unable to function for two days straight. It can take up to 50 hours to get out of your system, and it did for me. I'm finally feeling back to normal now, but I'll never take Wellbutrin again.

Just be careful combining wellbutrin with other stimulants. From what I've read on the internet, it's not a good idea. But I know what works for one, can be a nightmare for another, but I'd just suggest doing lots of research on the internet, read forums about people's experiences on wellbutrin, and particularly combining it with other stimulants.

A side effect is that it can lower your seizure threshold.

I also had two seizures attributed to Wellbutrin and Phentermine. I was in ICU for a couple of days as I beat myself up pretty good during the first seizure. If that doesn't help you make up your mind, think about this. My driving privileges have been revoked for six months because of the seizures. I wasn't driving at the time, it's just that I COULD have been driving. I'm more than happy to oblige the order. Scared me pretty good. Please think long and hard before mixing the two. It's hard to come back from such a setback.

Just a question to clarify: were your seizures related to taking both Phentermine and Wellbutrin together, or did you have these seizures whilst using each med seperately?

A bit of Wellbutrin trivia - if you've ever "been treated for anorexia nervosa" PDR "contra-indicates" (fancy for don't prescribe it)this due to SEIZURES associated with it in persons who 'EVER' have been treated for anorexia, or, perhaps if one was anorexic,recovered, whatever, this particular drug can cause seizures or "lower the threshold" for them. Clarification: My post was off topic (oops) and was editted. However, it looks like I'm talking about Phentermine lowering the seizure threshold. I'VE NEVER TAKEN PHENERMINE IN MY LIFE. My BP is too high to ever attempt it. My comment about the seizures had to do with Wellbutrin. Sorry about any confusion.

Can anyone tell me the difference bwetween these three kinds of Phentermine? I checked rxlist.com and they listed the info in the top post.

Yellow is usually the cheapest, blue the middle and the 37.5mg are the most expensive. Is it a time release thing?

Once again, I'm sure i'm putting the wrong post in the wrong place but as a meek poster but long term db person, i dont have all posting rights yet. My question to any of the experts out there is what is the difference between ritalin, adderal, and phenter.?

I know that these are amphet. or close. I know that rit. is just one. but, beyond that, as a non-stimulant user, i really need to know about these as i have friends who need medication and are not sure which to get.

I think the yellows are 15 mg, blue are 30 and the white-speckled are 37.5. The 37.5s are the only ones you can break in half.

I am going to a weight loss doctor, he has prescribed me phen. I've been on it for 2 weeks and it really hasn't curbed my hunger...is their anyone else it doesn't work for? Other stimulants shut my hunger right down, but the one prescribed for weight loss does nothing...

What is Adipex?
Adipex-P® is the leading brand name of the generic drug Phentermine Hydrochloride. Commonly referred to as "Adipex".

Adipex is manufactured by Gate Pharmaceuticals who have been marketing the diet pill since 1990.

What does Adipex look like?
Adipex is available in both tablet and capsule form.


Adipex tablets: are blue and white and oblong in shape.
Each tablet is scored and debossed with "ADIPEX-P" and "9"-"9".
Adipex tablet are packaged in bottles of 30.


Adipex capsules: one end is opaque bright blue and the other end is opaque white.
Imprinted onto each capsule is "ADIPEX-P" - "37.5" and two dark blue stripes.
Adipex Capsules are packaged in bottles of 100.

What is Adipex prescribed for?
Adipex is an appetite suppressant and has successfully been helping people lose weight since it was released onto the market. It is designed to be used in combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Who should Adipex be prescribed for?
Normally Adipex is prescribed for the excessively overweight who also suffer with a condition such as such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. To class as a suitable candidate for Adipex someone must have a BMI of 27+.

How does Adipex work?
Adipex works by affecting parts of the central nervous system which effectively suppress the feeling of hunger. Adipex is known to increase levels of energy within patients which can be expended through exercise.

Adipex is a prescription drug.
Adipex is classed as a controlled substance with the US and is only available on prescription.

The chemical composition of Adipex is similar to that of amphetamines and if taken for a prolonged period of time can be addictive. It is usually recommended that Adipex be taken for no longer than a period of a few weeks without a break.

Adipex can also be habit forming and it should only be taken by the patient it was prescribed for.

Adipex side effects
Side effects of Adipex can include:

Recommended Adipex dosages
37.5mg of Adipex, taken once daily either before breakfast or 1-2 hours after is the standard adult dosage of these diet pills. Some patients may find that half this dosage 18.7mg, is adequate, whilst others may be recommended to split the Adipex 37.5mg and take two doses of 18.7mg at different times during one day.

Avoid taking Adipex late at night or just before bed as this may result in insomnia. Adipex is not recommended for patients of 16 years old or younger.

What precautions should be taken before using Adipex?
Inform your Doctor of the following:

If you are allergic to phentermine or any other medications.
What other medications you are currently taking (prescription and non-prescription)
If you have ever suffered from a heart condition, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma or have a history of drug abuse.
If are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant whilst taking Adipex tell your doctor.
If you are subject to agitated states.
Adipex with fenfluramine (Phen-Fen)
Adipex (phentermine) should not been taken with fenfluramine, when taken together this combination of drugs is known as Phen-Fen. Both phentermine and fenfluramine are FDA approved medications. However in 1997 the FDA issued a public health warning that when taken together patients are at considerable risk of developing abnormalities in their heart valves which could result in seriousness of the cardiac problems.

Over dosage
Overdoses of Adipex can have serious consequences, if quantities are high enough this can include death. If an overdose is suspected seek medical help immediately.

Symptoms of overdosage can include: restlessness, tremor, hyperreflexia, rapid respiration, confusion, assaultiveness, hallucinations, panic states, fatigue, depression, arrhythmia, hypertension or hypotension, circulatory collapse, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps.

Fatal poisoning usually terminates in convulsions and coma.

am taking 30mg, imprint is k 28. just not really phasing it. I'm still not eating, but not out of lack of hunger.

okay -not sure I'f I'm the right person to post or not. I got 3 months of phenterermine for $25 a month for 37.5 2x a day for only 25.o per month (60 37.5 pills a month. I ust want to repeat the success I've experienced with previous dosage of adipdex.I had such success through my local doc, so now I'm so thrilled to be getting a great, LEGAL price for the very needed medicine w/o resorting to internet orders that are shady and untrustworthy.

My strong advice to all drug buyers - find youselves a local doc who gets you, trusts you, and will script for you. Then tell those online site to suck tail pile (except the ones that only offer drugs not avaialble in the US - like Rimonobahnt on 4rx.com

I take one adipex a day and get all jittery and have to force myself to eat something. I cant imagine taking two.

The imprint is "MP 273" and is made by "Mutual Pharm"

I have never tried phentermine but have wanted to. I am concerned about two things:

1) will it work if I am taking a pain med as
well? ...darvecett, hdryo.. or similar/

2) I have a very poor working adrenal function, chronic fatigue and sleep disorder. Would I end up harming myself by reving my system up artificially?

....that is, if anyone happens to know.....
