I came off 40-60mg a day fine. It wasn't terribly hard.

Everyone is different, for sure.

That's my experience.

Thanks for the input. I was only taking 10 mg a day. I can't imagine coming off 40 mg. But since reading the Ashton Report and making my stages down I feel much better. According to the report, unfortunately most doctors suject their patients to a rapid withdrawal that can lead to agony for the patient. My best wishes for you

I'm suprised to hear that it is so hard to come off a 10mg valium a day dosage. I take valium before bed for my jaw clenching/grinding. When I forgot to take them while on vacation for a week, I noticed no withdrawal symptoms at all, other than my jaws hurt more when I woke up. I always had assumed that you need a much larger dosage to experience the bad withdrawal symptoms. This kind of worries me, as I really need them for nighttime. I don't take them during the day as they make me too tired and lethargic. I'm wondering if I should get off them and try to find something else that will work.

JeanneLynn:

You stopped for a whole week with little symptoms, then
you are probably one of the lucky ones who can get off
them. Others can have problems gettng off if taking for
only a couple of weeks, and others can take for years
and have no problems. I stopped from 3 millg. and felt
awful in just 36 hours!

Your nighttime dosage or one dose in 24 hours is a
way to take them as they stay in system so long, I
can go 12 - 18 hours easily without just one dose.

Insomnia is one w/d effect and it seemed you did not
experience that, but these also relax muscles which
maybe made your jaw feel worse.

Maybe take one every 3 days or take a lower dose or
would your dr. prescribe some other muscle relaxant?

I think a lot of this is psychological. We all read these posts about benzo withdrawal- what a nightmare it is. No doubt this is true. But I find it unbelievable that stopping 10 mg/day of valium would cause WD's if you weren't expecting it to happen. Many, many years ago I was on 20 mg/day, and when I moved I had to go CT. I never noticed a thing. Of course, nobody told me to expect WD's. If you read all of the DB posts on this subject, you would have to believe that any drug will produce WD's when you go off of it, but it's not true.

I not only agree with going down slow ,but with a lot of experience in valium detox, I also stay ahead of the doctor by a small amount and every 3rd or 4th day I take that extra and give myself a small releif.Sometimes detoxing steadly can be very frustrating and to take a small releif can ease quite a bit of the day to day suffering away. After your relief go down the next day and only take that relief if you need it and wait at least 3 days.
I'm not trying to preach to anyone but this has helped me make it through a 19 year addiction and I use my own system when I know it might take awhile to get an order. This may not work for everyone ,but it might help some of you having a bad time.

As an update from my earlier post in May, I thought the withdrawal symptoms with the taper of 1 mg/week would have me feeling better with the last week being down to 1 mg.
I have taken Valium off and on over the years and never had any WD side effects until this spring. The more I've read about the more I can see how benzos affect the chemical status of the brain. I had a scary episode last week when I had a bad case of tachycardia (fast heart rate) and had to call 911. It wasn't fun.
I'm feeling a bit better but still in the taper stage.
I know everyone is different and may not experience WD symptoms but don't kid yourself. It can be very frightening and dangerous. If you can find some other safe sleep aid or anti anxiety. This isn't worth it.

For me the only thing diazapam does for me is relax my muscles a little and help my stomach aches. I still need 2mg of znax to sleep. I hate it.

Is librium still made? As a teen and a child the docs gave me that for what they called nervous stomach. All of a sudden in my fifties, I have those nagging tummy aches again.

I can't stand to even use those types of medication. My doctor perscribed me xanax for my anxiety. I had to split them in half and still hated it. I've taken only one. I have them! Wish they had something for anxiety that didn't make you feel like a zombie.

Aren't we all different! Valuim doesn't make me sleepy or stoned or anything. It just relaxes my stomach muscles

Maybe I am missing something, Injecting any crushed up V is a bad idea. Don't knoe about liquid V but I don't think that would be IV either, but subcutaneous.

Yea, Diazepam - Roche cut, Roche Int'l, Barr & Zenith etc have always been a smooth ride for me. Xanax, on the other hand is like a roller coaster in comparison. I hear Ativan is a nice middle ground. My current doctor prefers me on xanax, go figure..

I figured that out. Everytime I got a stomach ache it was that, or the dreaded paragoric. Still can't stand licorice taste.

i know ivax 10mg and they are comparable to roche 10mg in all respects. however once i had an 100 ct white plastic bottle of ivax 10mg and i thought their quality deteriorated rather more quickly than roche. this could have been merely a question of packaging and environment. what are the prices you are receiving? can you send me the name of supplier privately?

please ask your doctor first, as both medications might interact and suppress your breathing. and stay away from alcohol when taking both meds!

see, i don't know your tolerance to opiats and benzodiazepines, and sure there are a lot of junkies that mix all of this 3 substanzes every day without dying from it.

but please take care, as i said, better ask a doctor or at least start with low doses of valium...

valium works better than anbiem hands down but it's a toss up between it and xanax.

Asian IOPs sound like what you need. I don't have personal experience with them bu some folks report good results.

Hey guys I have a question. My personal physician prescribed diazepam5mg 3 times per day for me two years ago. I couldn't take that nuch so I took 5mg once a day, and am now taking half of that in the morning.
The problem is that after a few hours I am dead tired, as if I haven't slept in a very long time!!
In your opinions is this a normal reaction to 2.5 milligrams of diazepam?

Depends upon how much you weigh, your tolerance, etc.

If you just started taking them again after 2 years, yes that is normal but you will probably start to build a tolerance and 2.5mg/day won't have much effect on you much at all.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply!
I have been taking them for 2 years without stopping and they still make me that tired. I don't think I've built up any tolerance which is unusual.
I'm 5'8 and weigh 120lbs.
