Flaming/Flame Wars: Flaming is reacting to posts or PM's in a hostile manner by publicly chastising the person or bombarding the person with nasty posts or PM's. Flaming may occur to users that engage in behavior that violates what is considered proper board netiquette. A flame war occurs when two or more users hit each other in an escalating manner that threatens to continue unabated. If you notice a flame war developing just notify the moderator or adminitrator and let them handle it. Do not take part in flame wars. If you do you will be banned even if you did not start it :-)
It really isn't insane because it really isn't accurate regarding the prescribing of Adderall in the US. I don't know where latus0514 lives, but there is no possible way Family Physicians are diagnosing and treating ADD/ADHD in their younger patients this way. While there has been a backlash fairly recently about our kids being over-treated and over-medicated for these disorders, the circumstances are nowhere near what this poster has described. It sounds like the UK has taken a more medically appropriate approach to this diagnosis.

Oh really? Okay.
The situation in the UK is actually quite bad, there's literally no licensed medication for treating adults with ADD/ADHD. People who are diagnosed as such can get medication if they're lucky enough to have psychiatrist with a special interest.
I think certain drugs are in the process of being licensed though...

SweetzJR had to go see a psych and get tested and after a few years of him checking her out monthly, the pcp prescribed it. BUT, we've been going to her for 10 yrs.
Back then, ritalin was prescribed, then we switched to Adderall over time. It was only taken during school time, btw.

That is a fairly typical process of dx and treatment. Light years away from the earlier post about 99% prescriptions without tests. Maybe that was some kind of wishful thinking on latus0514's part. Or an indication of the neighborhood he lives in? I'm unfamiliar with the treatment of attention disorders in GB. Last I heard, Shire was attempting to get approval to market Adderall there. Is treatment not available from British MD's using methylphenidate or one of the older amphetamine formulations?

The UK has methylphenidate (IR and MR), atomoxetine, dexamphetamine sulphate (Dexedrine) and modafinil for treatment of ADHD.
Many years ago, Riker produced an MR capsule, in 3 strengths, called Durophet, containing amphetamine and dexamphetamine. Not sure what happened to it, but it sounds like the equivalent to the US Biphetamine.
In fact, there was also a version called Durophet-M, which included a barbiturate; this was axed some time before Durophet was.
