The doc was actually very nice to talk to but indicated he only uses the lowest dose of narcotics to manage pain. Then gave me a script for 30 pills, 7.5 mg, at which time we had additional conversation and he wrote for 35.

I'm not clear what in my medical record or clinical presentation that warranted such a low dose, or if this is fairly typical on the first visit and subsequent follow up will result in an outcome I agree with.

I did write to customer service asking for a clarification and have yet to receive a response.

If NNCIP business model is to fly under the radar then I can understand the low dosing, as likely the Madison model of large doses may have contributed to their downfall. However, it seemed like the doc was not comfortable writing for narcotics, and did review the seriousness of addiction. Something I don't think I need to worry about with my 35 pills.

I have heard of some very different results for the same conditions, but different doctors.

There is a big difference between 120 and 30 Norco a month, which were the two responses I have received from people with identical conditions to mine.

It seems like the Pheonix doctor is scared of writing for narcotics. As I mentioned in my previous post, I was written for 90 30mg oxycodone because I have a high tolerance. I would definitely talk to customer service and let them know that this doctor does not treat your pain well enough. Being the "National Network for Chronic Intractible Pain", I would think they would want to hire doctors that give their patients appropriate pain relief and would be receptive to complaints about their doctors not treating a patients pain properly.

OMG...And their services are not CHEAP.

I would contact CS and see that they scheduled you another appt., with another DR. or refunded their portion of the fee.

Good Luck

Thanks for the great advise. I will follow up with CS by phone this week.

I like the NNCIP business model and think it has a chance to be successful. If their docs wrote scripts for oxycontin for everyone, they would not be in business long.

What I hope will happen is the Phoenix physician will re-evaluate my situation in a couple of weeks and determine a more appropriate dose. One of the things Madison had was the ability to have consults anytime to discuss changing dosing. I did this a few times, both increase and decrease. It would be great to see NNCIP incorporate a mechanism to re-evaluate treatment plans.

Lastly, it could be me and how I present. I do work full time, with or without pain meds, I have too. However, just because I can walk from a parking lot into an office building does not mean I am not experiencing significant pain. I may not have expressed that well to the doc, hence the take a pill in the evening when you get home from work.

Thanks again for all the comments. I'll follow up with CS and see if we can come to a successful resolution.

Sam,

I sympathize greatly with your situation and disappointment, but I just wanted to clarify the above statement.

I haven't seen any mention or reference to an NNCIP Doctor prescribing the ultra-demonized OxyContin. Sadly, it's a drug that represents a life saver to those with unrelenting pain as opposed to the shorter acting and more widely prescribed hydrocodone and oxycodone. However, it became a "drug of choice" for those who figured out how to bypass the time-release mechanism that so helped patients.

A poster mentioned receiving treatment which included a prescription for OxyCodone.

Those names are similar, but they represent 2 entirely different medications.

-----

Good luck with your treatment!

Thanks for the correction. The prior post did reference oxycodone, not the extend release variety.

I am aware there oxycontin and oxycodone are the same drug, one being extended release and the other not.

The point I was attempting to make was - NNCIP would likely come under greater scrunity by prescrbing CII meds, over CIII meds. Or by prescribing large doses ( 120+ count monthly) of CIII meds.

I'm sure they have a lawyer somewhere that has looked at how to decrease overall risk and then balance that with a sustainable business model.

Sam...

I live in the valley and have been seeing a pain physican in the area for several years, with good results.

There was another poster on this board that I recommend, and he too seems pleased, so far. He is also doing therapy as well, and is just starting a relationship with the clinic, but so far so good, from what he has told me.

Feel free to PM me, if I can help you with what I have experienced through the years, on my quest to find someone willing to help.

Just a quick update. I received a call from the NNCIP doc today. He was very pleasant and have every expectation that he will do right by me.

I had originally provided NNCIP with just the most recent records, but will provide some records going back a bit further. That should give the doc the best picture of my crappy back issues and have every expectation my pain will be addressed properly.

The NNCIP business model is one that I support. I'm looking forward to posting my future positive experiences, along with the rest of you.

Thanks for your support, and thanks to NNCIP.

Just a quick update. I saw the Phoenix NNCIP doc a few weeks back and received a script for a fairly low dose of pain med. Since then I have spoken to him twice and received a refill with an increased and acceptable dose.

All's well.

Has anyone seen the new Georgia doctor yet? I was told the current doctor isn't seeing any new patients but that they had a new doctor a little further out. I'm due for a consult (has to be face to face) by 11/10 and was wondering if anyone saw him yet and what your experience was.

Apparently the Munster Indiana doctor is no longer taking referrals, at least for the time being.

MMYP, FYI....... ND's (yes Naturopathic Doctors) can and DO prescribe medications including Narcotics in CERTAIN states. Oregon, Arizona, Washington, and a few others. They are fully licensed and DEA registered to prescribe prescription medications including Narcotics. You can look this up. They do not need to have a physician to watch over them like PA's do or NP's do. ND's ARE Licensed Primary Care Physician's in SOme states, not all but a few.....

my review* is that while I would have loved to use them,
they are not in my state and they have a rule* regarding how many miles away you are from the nearest clinic.
but, they are good with quick replies to emails.

Yes, it's too bad they don't seem to be able to move into more states. They haven't added any new states in months.

I am also in PA and wondering if they will get a doctor there too...If anyone hears of any, please post. I am not far from some parts of NJ either, but I think you have to be within 125 miles, is that right?
Thanks!

Interesting. I see Massachusetts went from "application in progress" to no application at all. Anyone have any idea what happened with that?

evidently TN. fell off of their list, what a bummer. their site had been saying for months that TN. was in the process and now its not.

There were a few states that dropped off - I think Hawaii was also an "app. in progress" state for awhile.

They had OR as one of the states where they had a Dr. but then it disappeared. When I called them about it they said the DR told them not to send him anymore patients. I wonder if that is the case....

I imagine it's getting tougher all the time to find Doctors/PA's who are willing to do this - especially no that RH has passed (even though with a F2F they won't be in violation).

So, is it OCS that has the distance requirement or it that a law of some kind. Where I live, I have to drive several hours to get to a big city - it's definitely more than 125 miles. I had to drive to another state just to see a decent Ortho doc.

Dear posters,

Has anyone seen an MD from this group in New York? I just returned from my GP who has been treating my CP from 4 bad discs and a bum knee for years.

Unfortunately, I am getting out of shape and need to hit the bike and treadmill, but the Hydro he prescribes doesn't cut it for that excessive exercise. I am soon to be a borderline diabetic and hypertensive if I don't drop 20-30 pounds.

So I went to GP and asked for 20mg time release oxy's #60 which I had taken years before when seeing a neuro and GP said "I don't prescribe that, see a PM doctor". He gave me a name and, of course, they were closed at 3PM on a Thursday. Previously I have seen 3 PM doctors and they have all stunk. Epidurals, useless PT, etc.

So, I am wondering if it is worth a trip to the NY NNCIP doctor to see if I can get the 20mg oxy's I want or if I would be wasting my time if NNCIP docs only give scripts for hydro and other Sch III's

Thanks in advance for any insight.
