For those of you using NNCIP and have surgery scheduled in the near future, here is some info:

I called customer service ( they are all wonderful and extremely helpful ) The women
I spoke to was not sure if my doctor needed to be informed.
She said maybe I should email my doctor just to be on the safe side. So, NNCIP does not have a rule or procedure in place for surgeries.

So, I emailed my doctor and here is what she said:
Inform the surgeon that I have pain medication.
If the surgeon is giving me something other than pain medication, take it. I guess that was a given, but I'm glad I emailed NNCIP and called CS.

I hope this has been helpful information

Hey ....Your welcome!! goodluck That's what some of us are here for !!....To Help yes

Well here is my follow story: Surgery went well and I am now having PT twice a week ( OUCH )
Anyway, after surgery my sister was handed my prescription for
antibiotics and norco ( on one prescription sheet )BTW I already told the Doctor and nurse that I had a prescription for norco.
But I guess the doctor didn't remember. So my sister and I go to fill the script. I tell the pharmacist to fill only the antibiotic and please cancel the norco. She says she is not allowed to cancel a prescription a doctor has written for a patient. I ask her what happens to it, she said it stays in "holding". Right away I call my NNCIP doctor and explain the story. She says not a problem, thanks for telling her and if I need an early refill to let her no.

So, my advise ...when in doubt call the doctor. Also check the boards for honest caring people. Thanks

Layla - you are doing it completely right. BUT, I have to say - from experience - that the "regular" dose of pain meds is often not enough to compensate for surgery. I have always informed my docs and they have acted accordingly. I get extra.

Gawd, I hate that time when you awake in recovery, freezing cold (altho they give you those oh so wonderful warm blankets), but the pain is intense. Then they give you something in the IV - morphine I think - and you go back to sleep. No, surgery is no picnic. I have this vision - they take out my liver and toss it in the trash, lol. And I am really laughing BTW. Maybe like a basketball hoop. LOL. Got to laugh, right?

Layla, sorry. I am so happy your surgery went well. And, yes, PT after surgery is painful. But useful. Try to bear with it. Gentle hugs.
