Out of these 5 which are the ones that make you gain alot of weight? I have been on the Haldol for 2 years and I think that is what made me gain over 100 pounds. I want to know if anyone knows anything about Haldol , and I would also like to know if there is a substitute for it, I have been on the other ones for about 1 year. The only thing I can say is maybe I should stop taking them can anyone help me? I have bipolar and I get into these manic states and then I can't remember what I do. I am on disability, but I want to get all of this straight before I start a job because when I have these "Episodes" I don't know what the heck I am doing. It is very hard for me because I just don't want to believe that I got this horrible disease, But it is very real. I was also diagnosed with paranoid schephernia( or how ever you spell it). And on many occasions I have heard voices. And I can't control this disease without meds. Does anyone know anything about this disease? I want to be off of everything, but the doctors say no and so does my husband. But he doesn't know how horrible I feel gaining all this weight. I try and tell him, but he doesn't want to hear it. He says I need to exercise more, but I never had to do that before so why should I start now? I know it is one of these drugs that is putting the weight on me, but he wants me on it. HELP!!

One of the side effects of Haldol can be weight loss, not usually gain, however, one of the symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia can be changes in weight. It could be possible that you eat more than you normally would and don't remember it, or, in a bipolar state, binge eat.
Whatever is happening, DO NOT stop taking your meds. It is very important that you listen to your doctor and your husband and maintain a regular course of treatment. Start by keeping track of what foods you eat and/or crave, if any. Then, see your doctor and have him recommend a healthy diet and recruit your husband. He is right that you probably need more exercise--even walking will help. Perhaps he can go with you--that makes it more fun.
Whatever you do, don't stop taking your meds. Do a Google search on 'bipolar' and 'paranoid schizophrenia' and research as much as you can on it. You need to educate yourself on these so that you can take as much control over them as possible.
