This is in response to a PM, about dealing with a specific OP consultation - i believe it it is generally applicable:

You fill out their questionaire. When they call (about 10 minutes early) they went over questionaire with me - very low key. I repeated my legitimate complaint --> I fell and injured my lower spine. Went to HMO urgent care, who said keep taking OTC ibuprofen (true!). Pain was significant enough that I couldn't sit up for more than 1-2 hours at a time or sleep comfortably. Asked for generic vicoprofen and they gave me 90 with one refill. Think I mentioned that urgent care said it would get better in a couple months, in order to set up the refill. It's that easy.

PS - don't mention any other Rx's you're taking. It just complicates things if they feel another MD is involved. if you're concerned, go to one of the drug interaction websites and make sure your new Rx won't interact with existing Rx's.

Yes, it's TEVA generic and I got 30 pills for $8 through my regular doctor. They work pretty well, I had never taken the brand name though.

Teva is the manufacturer of the generic. AAAMedsWorldwide offers it. I think NWW does too.

Plotinus, I agree, "less is more" with most consults. Let the medical records and questionere do the main talking and listen intently to your consulting doctor, but always let them know the severity of your condition and what types and quanity of medicines have given you relief in the past. Also don't be hesitant to mention all medications that you feel will be theraputic for your particular condition. It's often easy to stop at just the pain medication, but if a muscle relaxant or anxiety medicine is called for, please discuss this during your consult. I know it's often a nervous experience, but actually, this is understandable by most caring and compassionate OP doctors. Just be honest and forthright and you'll do just fine.

I have heard that with some OPs if you tell them that you take two before work and two after you get home before bed, that can net you the #120 count prescription, that is if your records support this claim...If you have a need for 90 and a physician feels that your condition warrants as many as 90 a month, one more per day wouldnt hurt at all, basically if your records warrant 90, they should also warrant 120..Just a summation of my thoughts..hope it helps...

Carlygh is correct. I got the script from my regular doctor, I told her my sister in law uses it for her monthly cramps and she whipped out her pad and started writing. It's really cheap, $8 for 30! Makes me sick how much we all overpay for our meds, but that's the way it has to be. Anyway, sorry this is slightly off topic, but just wanted the gals out there to know that my doctor was very receptive to the monthly cramp thing
