Why a name like DrugBuyers.Com?

It may look bad to some, but it is a good name and very respectable. Just as good as "prescription drugs", "drugstore", "drug company", and others...

Our name is composed of two words:

Word one: drug
Word two: buyers

We all know what "buyers" means but the word drug is not so clear.
Please see below for what the best dictionaries think the word "drug" means...

Merriam-Webster Online
Etymology: Middle English drogge
Date: 14th century
... a substance used as a medication or in the preparation of medication
... according to the Food, drug, and Cosmetic Act (1) : a substance recognized in an official pharmacopoeia or formulary (2) : a substance intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease (3) : a substance other than food intended to affect the structure or function of the body (4) : a substance intended for use as a component of a medicine but not a device or a component, part, or accessory of a device

Cambridge Dictionaries Online
drug (MEDICINE) noun [C]
any natural or artificially made chemical which is used as a medicine
anti-cancer/fertility/pain-killing drugs
Unfortunately, the tumour failed to respond to drugs/drug therapy.
At the time, some 500 000 patients were receiving the drug on prescription.
Perhaps drug companies should spend less on product promotion and more on research and development.
He takes drugs for his high blood pressure

WordNet Vocabulary Helper
drug (a substance that is used as a medicine...)

Dictionary.com
drug
A substance used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a disease or as a component of a medication...

Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology
drug Pharmacology. 1. any chemical compound that is used in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or cure of disease, for the relief of pain, or to control or improve any physiological or pathological disorder in humans or animals. Any chemical compound that is used in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or cure of disease, for the relief of pain, or to control or improve any physiological or pathological disorder in humans or animals

Anyone interested in other definitions, or uses of the word "drug", is in the wrong place!

When no one in your family understands why we need a forum like this, and they are nosey when you are online, the name really make them think the worst of you, I posted in another section about the name of the site with some suggestions for site names, I thought of MEDICINE SUPPORT FORUM and MEDICINE BUYERS FORUM and a couple others they were just suggestions. But it true that a lot of people cannot be on the site when certain members of their family are home because they see the name of the site and automatically think oh you are a drug addict. Thanks for listening to my post and I will say no more about it

the words 'drugbuyers' used to be a lot bigger than they are now. I mean, A LOT! you could see it 5 feet away. I think they've done good with making it smaller and I don't think it's wise to change a popular website all the sudden. My kids know I go here and they know I talk to people about pain issues. I'm mostly on the VIP side, but it's still the same.

I think the name could be a problem if there are children surrounding you while you are reading and they see it, but you really can't notice it at all! Especially if you just scroll up or down, when kids etc., are nearby.

Just scroll up so the 'name' doesnt show! I agree with Mark12, any other name just "doesnt cut-it"!

JMHO!!

To tell you the truth, I never really even thought about it. I see what you are saying about maybe if you have kids and they see the title.
The only person that see's me online though is my girlfriend. She knows I order meds online, and the reason I come to these forums. She would never think anything of it.

I know this has been posted before but you can always use www.epharmacywatch.com. It is just a mirror site to DB and sounds a little better IMO.

If you feel unconfortable surfing at drugbuyers.com you can see the same information at www.epharmacywatch.com

It is exactly the same site with a different domain name and different colors... so if you have an account in one of them you have an account in both... actually it is the same account...
Your DrugBuyers.com username and password work at ePharmacyWatch.com and viceversa... you have access to the same PM's...
There are a few cosmetic differences but the content is the same...

www.drugbuyers.com = www.epharmacywatch.com

Eh I'll dredge this up and give my opinion.

In one of my undergrad classes Drugs and Behavior the first thing the teacher asked us is when we hear the word drug what is our first thought of its meaning? I replied an illicit substance used for recreational purposes to alter the state of ones mind. (yeah i talked like that in class seriously) But then i added the caveat that it seems that media, doctors, commercials, all add to this idea that the word "drug" has a negative connotation because wherever you look you see the word "pharmaceutical" I've never seen a "pharmaceutical company" refer to itself as a "drug comapny"

eh just a thought, sorry to necro the topic

oddjob you must realllly want that post count up HA! \:D

ok, I'll play.

My first recollection of the word drug' was when I was in elementary school and we were in 'some era of the '"drug craze"'. Being called upon to answer a question I did not really understand, I did so promise...

"I will never do drugs"

I switch tabs when hubby enters the room. I've already gotten the raised eyebrow - I'm sure you've all seen it at one point or another! - from him on the 2 or 3 occasions when he saw the website's name. Told him it's a site to discuss the best sources for herbal remedies, etc. (When you consider the origin of most medications, it's not TECHNICALLY untrue!)

I'm not fond of being secretive with my beloved but he's a worrier when it comes to my well-being AND he refuses to take any kind of medicine unless he's at death's door. Plus, he's really healthy in general. He's never had chronic pain so he doesn't "get" it.

Still, in spite of the potentially incriminating name, I like it. I've always appreciated people who don't beat around the bush and this URL pretty much says it all!

Thanks for the info, though, about epharmacywatch. I'll be checking it out toot sweet!

That's too funny loohoo, because I do exactly the same thing. I usually have several shopping sites pulled up, but out of the blue one day, my hubby asked me if I had a boyfriend online...just told him I was on cafemoms.com. My husband sounds like yours. He will wait until the last minute before he goes to doctor. Not me, first sign I feel an illness coming on - off the the doc I go. I suffer with pain daily, but kinda glad hydro makes me sick. I just could not afford it at the sites mentioned here. If I could take it, I could get a script of 30 for $3.00.

BTW - I posted this on epharmacywatch.com, but do like drugbuyers.com - short, sweet, and to the point.
